Strike King 10Xd....wow!

I was at Dicks today and came across the new Strike King 10XD crankbait and I was floored at the beastly size of this thing.

 

Has anyone else here seen this bait?  Better yet, has anyone thrown it or know how it feels? I know it's not really deep cranking season really..    

 

I'm not even sure what rod to throw it with to be honest. The bait is a monster......

 

My thinking is it could be a great night time crankbait simply because of the havoc it would create with it's size...might get some monster reaction bites....

 

$12.99 isn't bad but have a plug knocker I'd say....I hang up enough 6XD's and DD22's

Wait till you see the new Lucky Craft SKT mag 120 DR it's even bigger than the new Strike King. I won't be throwing mine until post spawn so it will be a few weeks until I get a chance to fish it.

I've looked at them a couple of times. I don't have a rod capable of handling the things though, and no budget for another combo. If you guys start killing them on 10XD's I will have to sell a kidney and buy one.

I have 6 of them.  I actually trolled one a couple weeks ago on a 20' flat.  No takers, but they do pull like a monster.  Future reports to follow!

I saw something about that bait, does TW have them now? Bigger than the XD? That's bold.  These two crankbaits are the biggest that have ever been made that I know of. Why did they see the need to create such a monster crankbait? Is this to select for larger fish only I suppose? 

 

What rod would be good for these? I was thinking maybe a MH Moderate, 7'6 to 7'11?

I have a shad crankbait thats a monster. Its not a deep diver though, I bought it about 10 years ago. I should sell it to someone who fishes for stripers because with its size I have never had a bass look at it. Anyone interested in it can send me a PM and we can work something out. Its at least 6" long and is shallow running/floating. If it can hit 10ft I would be surprised.

I saw them in the catalogs. 4" is a big CB. The 6XD and DD are 3", and they are big. I've been surprised in the past how big a lure largemouth's are willing to take though. One year I decided to try and up the size bass I was catching. I started pitching some musky sized SBs, 13inch worms, and a Swim Whizz muskie plug, and I caught bass. Fewer than normal, fewer small fish, but I broke two pond records for myself. I wouldn't be afraid to throw a 4" CB, but I'd go in expecting fewer bites. Will be curious how they pan out.

Those suckers are BIG! 2 oz bait. I dont think my crankbait rod can handle it.  Most fish will be monsters that bite it

2#+ bass can easily eat a 4" bluegill.

Once you see a 3 lb bass choke on an 8" Hudd it will change the way you look at lure size. Once I get a rod for this application I'm look forward to throwing these baits, I am particularly excited to throw the 120 square bill that Lucky Craft came out with.

Thanks for the info. I'll check it out for sure. I agree completely about the lure size and have no doubts....we use 6-8 inch Hudds to catch smallies and some have been around the 2 pound or less mark....they choke em' good.! I love big bait fishing. It's definitely a selective method.

The Skeet Reese LC cranks are huge! I saw them at the Classic and almost talked myself into buying the squarebill until I saw it's still supposed to dive 15'? I need one that size that runs 3-6 like a normal squarebill and I'll throw it.

Good question, I assumed it was the max the shad grew but I just looked it up and that doesn't appear to be the case,although they have short lifespans maybe the chances of going to longer length is slim to none.  This was SS off a popular show so I cant believe they don't have the facts right, any biologist have an answer?

I saw a video here where an angler was catching 3-5 lb what he called "bull" Shad on a buzzbait. Lake Guntersville I believe.

Shad are much deeper bodied at 12" than a bass is at 14".

The length and width isn't the issue, the bass' throat is round, much like the shape of a smaller bass. The shad is much deeper or taller than the longer bass would be. A 14" bass will probably only be 5 or 6 inches from belly to back and the belly will also be able to be compressed in if a larger fish was swallowing it. A 12" Gizzard shad is very deep or tall, probably at least 7-8 inches and they have a much more rigid rib cage than a bass does that will compress a lot less than a bass' would. They can't eat as big of a shad much for the same reason they can't eat as big of a bluegill. Their anatomy just doesn't allow them to swallow something that tall and most likely they would never be able to even get it all the way to their throat to attempt to swallow it.
