joetomlee Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 Last weekend I went out for the first time this year on a really temperamental lake. The winds were blowing approx. 20-25 mph so it was blowing pretty hard. The winds seemed to be blowing westward (weird?) and on the west side of the lake I could see enormous schools of bait fish. Although it was windy, I decided to fish this area thinking the bass would likely want to feed. I tried a lot of subtle approaches such as dropshot, texas rigged worms and very slow presentation jigs. I fished that side of the lake for about 3 hours with no luck, not even a bite. If it were you, what side of the lake would you have fished? I understand there are more variables (structure, depth, etc. etc.) I am just considering a general overview of the wind patterns and the time of year. I am in NYS and the weather has only recently started warming up, but weather fluctuates back and forth basically on a day to day basis. Just trying to figure out where I might have went wrong (if at all). Thanks for your help, in advance! Quote
jwhowells Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 I always try to fish into the wind. My thinking is the bass will be facing the current looking for an easy meal blowing into them. I try and look for some vegetation or a point that the current is traveling into and cast to keep my lure in the strike zone. 1 Quote
BuckMaxx Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 I personally don't have good luck when fishing around easy forage like you describe. Full Bass are really hard to catch! I would have found new water with similar structure to where the forage was. I also have NO patience in the wind. I would have found water where I was comfortable then slow down and pick it apart. 1 Quote
