Super User Teal Posted April 27, 2013 Super User Posted April 27, 2013 "Cant we all just get along" Lol. 5 minutes until more draft mistakes are made. Quote
craww Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 They actually have ended up with a pretty good haul. The WR,CB,TE,S, and RB are legit players that will help down the road. They potentially replaced miles austin, orlando scandrick, Jason witten, and found a good runningback to complement murray. The corner, Webb excelled in this very defense in college...who knows if he pans out they could shift carr to free safety again. As much as I hate to admit it, this is a good draft. The rumor is they're gonna sign RT clabo or hopefully, Winston. Ronde barber is also still out there, and would be a nice addition in kiffens scheme. They will still be on the hook for a good chunk of the $, but cutting Doug free and miles Austin would save some cap space. If they can get a FA tackle, let both of em go. Quote
Hanover_Yakker Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 The concern is not always about the talent of the picks that JJ makes - it's in his evalution of that player relative to the collective grade that is published prior to the draft and their relative value against the entire draft class. From a value perspective, the third round picks and later were exceptional values, but the first two picks relative to their projected selection is where you could make a case for JJ reaching. As with any draft, you can never justify one pick over another until four years later, so we'll just have to wait an see. If you look at it from a needs perspective, Dallas drafted and address several needs not only for this season but also to protect themselves after next season for cap concerns assocaited with unfavorable contracts like Austin, Bryant, Witten, Murray, etc. Remember, the draft class of 2009/2010 has their 3 year and 4 year contracts expiring at the end of this upcoming season that has to also be considered when selecting new players in a draft. In the end, Free will likely only be designated as a June 1 cut if Clabo or Winston agree to a 2-3 year contract that has a small cap hit this year. If not, then Dallas will have to suck up the mistake and deal with Free for one more season, then cut him next year. My one big question is whether the interior line will be stout enough against the run this year. We'll have to wait and see on Crawford, Lissimore, Ratliff, Spencer and crew can hold up. We have insufficient depth in that area for my tastes, and it is an area that should not have gone unaddressed in the draft. Quote
shootermcbob Posted May 1, 2013 Author Posted May 1, 2013 I agree about looking at the draft in 3-4 years to tell the whole story, and maybe Frederick will turn out to be beast. But, the cowboys have not garnered ANY benefit of the doubt with their draft performances since....well....since Jimmy left. I do like the pickup of Williams, and think Randle in the 5th round could be a good pickup as well. Didn't like the pick of a big, slow pass catching tight end in the 2nd round. Again, I truly hope against all hope that these players all make the team, and can become starters in the next 2-3 years. Dallas is going to be rebuilding very soon, if they are not already, with Ware, Witten, Romo, Ratliff, and most of their other "core" players now 30 years old, or older. Quote
shootermcbob Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 Sadly, that has been true too many times. A good offensive line and a power running game are a quarterback's best friend. Unfortunately, the Cowboys have neither. Quote
guitarkid Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 come and see the glorious light of the redskins.... or whatever they're called now. -gk Quote
shootermcbob Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 come and see the glorious light of the redskins.... or whatever they're called now. -gk I am not sure about the "glorious" light part....the Redskins....while certainly looking to be an uprising team....have been about as bad and miserable as the cowboys have over the past several years. If RGIII can stay healthy, look out for them. He has "it", whatever that is. The 'skins players really rally behind him. Quote
