Hello, my name is Michael and i am very new to the bass scene and absolutely love it. I have also caught every one of my fish from reading these forums and articles so thank you everyone as you have already helped a lot but please help me out again:)

Can anyone give me some bait tips what are some of your alls favorites for the pre-spawn?

If it helps i fish in a 3 or 4 acre pond with stained to muddy water and 55-70 degrees have been the temperatures here lately in East Tennessee in April. Not sure what or where structure is.

Thanks everyone

Throw a jig, you can swim it, drag it, and hop it.  On my small ponds right now I'm flipping jigs and plastics into visible shore line cover, and running shallow cranks parallel to the bank.

lipless crank

I have found all of my fish on a jerkbait and and squarebill crankbait, once I found the fish I threw senkos (weightless), jigs, and some tubes.

Good luck!

Shakey head jigs work well for me, very versatile. Good luck!

I would run a Spinnerbait and/or a lipless crank from the bank if I were you pre-spawn.   You should be able to throw them a long ways and cover a lot of ground.  Just make sure to keep varying your retrieve until you find a pattern that works.

HOW BIG SHOULD THE SPINNER BAIT BE?

Without knowing the depth of the water, or the lure weight recommendations of your rod, it is hard to say.  I know that a 3/8 oz is a good "all purpose" weight for me.

My tip.........don't digest too much information, it can be overwhelming.  Stick with 1 or 2 techniques, a few different kinds of baits and learn how to locate fish.  For a beginner a plastic worm is pretty easy to fish, produces as good as anything and will teach you how to set the hook and keep your interest high because you have good chance of catching fish.
