Im talkin grape here not junebug. So I understand that purple is the most visible to fish, or it's last to disappear as the water gets deeper. I think. So what water clarity does this theory apply to? Is that for clear water, stained, or muddy?

Well, I would think that the standard answer would be it's a darker day, darker water color because it's on the darker end of the color spectrum.  Personally, I've thrown a purple toned bait in all weather conditions and have had success.  A good 65% of my plastics are probably in the purple color family.

Purple is a good color in stained or dark water. But purple seems to always be a color that attracts bass.

If its a cloudy day or murky water then solid purple is probably best. With sunny days or clear water, clear purple would be better because it's more transluscent and does not look as unnatural as a solid colored bait would.

Also color drops out in proportion to the amount of light reaching a certain depth.  Red is the first color to drop out but may drop out deeper in clear water than in murky water because the light does not penetrate as deeply in the murky water.

Junebug as originally manufactured is grape (purple) with green metal flake.

I have never bought into the theory of selecting lure color based on water or sky clarity, my two most productive colors of plastic worms in any water or sky clarity are Cinnamon Pepper Neon/June Bug Laminated (Camouflage) and Junebug/Blue Tail.

Similiar to what you've described I've done well with Zoom baits in the  Smoke Purple color.

I ran into this article while doing a search on tackle making. There is information on what colors disappear at certain depths in the water. The information is based on crystal clear water, but I think you'll get the idea.

There is also a section on what colors fish see and bass are referenced within that section. I'm not sure I've totally bought into 100% of what is contained in here, but I do think that there are some validity to it.

Anyway, here's the link and you can make your own opinion on that part of the article.

I hear ya.

It's my absolute favorite spinnerbait color, which is a shame since virtually no one makes a nice solid purple spinnerbait.

man I've never even seen a purples spinnerbait. Is there a reason you choose this color like water clarity or something? It seems like something interesting to try if I can find them around here.

The last time I saw a purple spinnerbait was probably 20 years ago.

Was it a Bell Lunker Lander or a Hazy Dazy?

Terminator makes a purple spinnerbait.

I know they once did (at least the skirt) but I haven't seen a purple Terminator in several years.

I even checked there webpage today and couldn't find any with purple skirts. They did have an all blue one, but that was as close I could get.
