fl_bass Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Went to a nearby canal during my lunch break and noticed a peacock in the water. I hooked a baby bass fluke weighted with a 1/16oz bullet weight unpegged. Started tossing the fluke I the general direction of the peacock and still nothing. So I decided to move my position so I could have a different presentation. Toss the fluke about 8-10ft away then swam the fluke with slight jerks toward the peacock. Then bang the line got tight and fish on. It put up a pretty decent fight but in the end I plucked it up and out of the water. Nothing huge but I finally got my first peacock bass. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted April 23, 2013 Super User Posted April 23, 2013 I am sorry to tell you, however that is your first mayan Cichlid. It's a peacocks bass cousin. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted April 23, 2013 Super User Posted April 23, 2013 The color configuration and pattern is completely different and you are not the only one to make that mistake. MC's are also very fun to catch. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted April 23, 2013 Super User Posted April 23, 2013 I hate to rain on your parade but that is not a peacock, it's a mayan cichlid, they do give a nice fight for a small fish. This is a peacock bass Quote
fl_bass Posted April 23, 2013 Author Posted April 23, 2013 Haha, back to fish ID school for me. I did not know that they got that big. Still was fun little hour, and back to hunting one of suckers down. Thanks for letting me know. Quote

I.rar Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 I think those are the ones they call atomic pan fish lol. Awesome fight on light tackle. I've seen those go after peacocks that swim by their beds. Quote
