thinking of getting this rod but i read a thread about the paint chipping off and line guides not being aligned right. maybe it be best to get the bass pro insurance or whatever they call it to just keep exchanging it when it goes bad?? besides that how good of a rod is it compared to other rods in the  $100 range.

I am one of those people that have had Zero issues with mine. I had 4 with no problems. I'm down to one as I upgraded but still love the rod.

Pure Fishing will repair or replace the rod if something happens. Keep your receipt and you can exchange it if its bad.

Check the guides over really well. Look for miss aligned guides and chips or cracks before you get it.

The *** series and the Shimano Clarus rods are a better deal in the 100 dollar mark. Just my 2 cents.

Weren't you shipped one that was broken?  If I remember correctly one was destroyed upon delivery but the second came with guides broken or something.

Not me. I've got 3 from Simmons Sporting Goods on eBay that were perfect and one at BP I hand picked.

It might have been TNBassin though. I think he had one come to him all buggered up

You know what? The veritas is a very popular rod and a lot of people have them so you're bound to see more complaints simply because there are more customers. I'm sure you'll find lemons with any manufacturer.

I have two in the 7' MH micro guide version. I had one snap about 7" from the tip and I was simply fishing a spinnerbait and ripped it through the weeds.

I've also swung a nearly 4lber into the boat after ripping his face off on the hook set. Stout rod!

Basically it's a great rod the way it was designed. The best part though is abu's 3 year warranty. If the rod has any problems, just send it in and they'll send you a new one back. Save your worries.

I've had epoxy around the guides crack, clear coat peeling, and guides that look like they were put on by a blind man with no hands. That being said, if u go through the hassle of getting a good one, they are awesome rods. Just inspect them closely before u buy.

I bought one against better judgement, it broke, abu repplaced it, i sold it.

Theres alot of good rods in the 99-150 that have not had as many issues and complaints that ive seen from the Veritas. I think Abu had a good concept for the rod, but theyy missed the mark when it came to durability. Ill stick to my Powells for now.

For anyone with $100 to spend on a rod, there's no reason to give your money to Abu now that *** is around. The ***.....WOW. Great rod.

I had two veritas in spinning tackle, and misaligned guides on the one that I owned.  Chipped paint doesn’t bother me a bit; it doesn’t affect performance of the rod.  I sold my veritas this year, and picked up 13 fish *** 7’1 M and 7’1 MH. Those are sweet rods, feels much better than veritas when pair up with the ci4.

I bought a veritas back during the classic, so far I like it, I have had no problems with an I have caught some hawgs with it!

From my personal experience, I own one a 7'3" MH/F it is my favorite shore fishing rod.  Not that I don't take care of it, but it takes a decent beating when I walk through bushes...etc.  I do not have one issue with it, I used it for everything basically..frogging, flipping and pitching, jig and worm, spinnerbaits and never had an issue with it performance wise.  None of the listed complaints have started and I agree, this is a popular rod and possibly you see so many complaints because there are so many out there.  As for other 100 dollar rods,

I own a Triumph, even though it's an ok rod I'd probably say go up to at least a Mojo.  I do however favor my Compre and would recommend that over the Veritas.  To me it is a tad bit better and more true to it's power...I also find it a little more sensitive.  However, overall I recommend that if you can save a few more bucks to go for an Avid, Fenwick Aetos or Crucial.  Crucial can be found around 150 and an Avid about 170.  However, if you don't mind buying used you can buy either of them usually around your budget.  Right now locally listed I can buy a used Crucial for 70-90 bucks, granted these are the older version corked, but they are also decent sticks.  I'm only recommending from my own experience, the *** and Fenwick Smallmouth Elite Tech get rave reviews.  I did hold an Elite Tech in store, boy are they light!  However, I didn't like the short handles.

I own one, 7.6 MH standard Guides, for the money...I think it is good sensitive rod.  Not a fan of cork handles and the split grip and exposed reel seat has helped me catch more, Im sure of that!

Bought mine in January, on sale for $79 at one local tackle store and the other one in town has them for $74.  I plan on purchasing another one with micro-guides.

That was me, but I still love them even with the stupid shipping issues that happened.OT: The Vendetta rod that came from walmart was packaged much better than my Veritas rods straight from pure fishing. Someone said the veritas rods are on sale from walmart btw.

The customer service over there is great, my experiences alone will keep me buying abu products, When a problem arises, they  address  it and even solved ones that I caused(lost parts to my reel accidentally).

Thats odd might just be the abu line up that comes shipped poorly. My fenwick aetos came from purefishing with bubble wrap on the rip and the butt and also a foam cover on the tip and the entire thing was wrapped in plastic. On top of that the top and bottom of the rod tube had foam in it.

I had a 7'mf spinning rod and I liked it and it was sensitive but it was a little to stiff and something just felt off to me. Can't pinpoint what exactly but it just didn't work for me. Sold it to a buddy and he is still fishing it and no issues to speak of as of yet.

Must be.  Mine was just in a box with bags, then I asked for a rod tube but the rod came with a spiral wrap lol.

@flyfisher, I think a ML may equal a medium, it may even be too stiff

i'd buy a falcon bucoo.it's lighter and feels better to me.all bucoo rods are under 4 oz according to falcon.it's also got a 5 year warranty.

I had the exact same feelings for me 6'6" MF spinning rod.  I tried to like it but after a couple trips over a week or so I couldn't take it anymore and exchanged it for a 6'8" MXF Carbonlite, and am glad I did.

The Veritas is light and sensitive but they are stiffer then what they are rated for and what I was wanted for my spinning rod.  I know a lot of people like the Veritas but its not for me.

I like mine, but i have only used it for some small farm pond fishing so far. Paired with my Revo S, I can cast and pitch further than anything else I have. I would suggest it. And like someone else said, there is good customer service and a 3 year warrenty. It is a bit stiffer than other rods I have used, but I like the way the 7' MH feels for jigs. Feels just about perfect.  Im going to tournament fish with it soon, so I hope it will hold up to the all day tournament use. I have heard great things about many different rods in the same price range as well. Its going to be up to you. I decided on mine becuase I wanted the Revo S reel. They pair up perfectly and the customer service + 3 year warrenty are the other things that sold me. If a $100 rod holds up for 3+ years and does what its suppose to do, it was worth it.

One dude at Bass Pro was telling me that when he uses his he loosens his drag a bit becuase they dont have as much give as other rods

I bought one, among with the BassPro insurance and it became useless after the 2 year insurance. This rod is great, and I love the weight distribution, but it just doesn't seem to last that long. The handle started to chip, and the line guides bent easily. The first 2 line guides are destroyed on my Veritas.... And I only used fluorocarbon on this rod. I didn't even fish with it that much, and I was very careful with it. The *** is a way better rod for the price range.

I have a couple of Omens and 1 veritas. While I love my Omens, I cant stand my Veritas, I am actually going to sell it. I really dont like the feel and it's definitely too stiff for the rating. I have the 7' M/H micro guide. Not a fan of the micros either. I have only fished it twice, but thats all it took for me.

I have several Abu Garcia rods and one is a Veritas. I love it and have had no issues. It feels a lot lighter than all of my lower grade rods. I also feel like it is sturdy and tough enough to handle most fish. I caught a 15 lb striper on it and I feel like that's good enough for me as my odds of catching a Largemouth that size are slim to none.

It doesn't affect the performance of the rod, but I've got $15 Shakespeare rods that are years old and have been heavily used that don't have the issues the Veritas does. I understand it's "only" a $100 rod, but there's just no way it should have the QC problems that it does.
