stonum Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Hello, I fish trout at Bennett Springs, Mo. but thats about all I know about fishing. My brother has a lake house at the Lake of the Ozarks. He's in a cove on the Niauga arm near where Mo.5 crosses the lake.I forgot the name of his cove, but it's right next to Beauty cove. He doesn't fish much. He doesn't hardly even go to the lakehouse even anymore But he tells me sometime around this time of year, you can see white bass activity all over the cove, and there easy to catch at that time.(I don't think these are the monster sized bass...I believe these particular white bass range from 1/2 pound to 2 pounds maybe) So i went there today at dawn and put my kayak in at his lakehouse. I spent a couple hours casting a white grub with green head,a roostertail, and a rubber worm all around the cove. Nothing happened. And I saw no sign of bass activity. Can somebody tell me when i might expect the white bass activity to begin, or does the start of this white bass activity vary from year to year? Thank you, Mike....... wait maybe i answered my own question...i'm reading online that this white bass spawn usually occurs during the 1st half of april...i guess i missed it Quote
Danarchy Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 From what I remember, white bass spawn once the water hits 50 degrees and up. I was just in Oklahoma last week and got into some white bass in sheltered coves and bays. The water temp was right around 60. Quote
weekendwarrior Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 I live in Columbia and fish the Ozarks regularly and the only white bass I have caught were in some of the deeper holes that were relatively clear or rocky on the bottom. Keep in mind that I wasn't trying to catch white bass and wasn't particularly looking for them. So I'm not sure if they move into the more shallow coves to spawn or when the spawn even occurs, but if the spawn has already taken place you might try and fish some deeper areas for them. Also I have heard there are plenty of white bass in the Missouri River. Quote
Goaltender Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 I've got a condo down there, and go 2-3 times a month nearly year round. I fish large/Kentucky bass almost exclusively, but come fall, right around Columbus Day, the whiteys (stripers) go nuts. They round up the minnows and shad and push the school into the back of a cove or along a bluff wall. Once they get 'em cornered, the water boils the feeding frenzy begins! You can throw almost anything into the mess and catch em! Pound for pound they are the best fish to catch! 1 Quote
