I've got a gen 2 and gen 3 revo s. For the price I'd say it's a great reel. The gen 2 is a little heavy, which was solved with the gen 3. I love everything about the gen 3 except for the gearbox. The way I hold my rod it just gets in the way a little bit. It isn't so bad that I won't fish it, but I won't buy more. If they solved that issue I would be all over some more revo's. It all depends on how you hold your rod though. Performance wise I would say it's a great reel.

What generation? I had two of them when they first came out, good reels, I liked them just fine, no problems with them. I don't know anything about the current white ones, but Abu makes good stuff, I can't believe they wouldn't be as good, if not better than the first generation ones I had. I only sold them because I got smoking deals on a couple of Shimano Curado 51e's that are on the rods the Revos were on, so they became extras, and I am not a gear collector so down the road they went.

What are your thoughts of a abu Garcia revo S reel

Plain and simple, it's awesome.

It's a good reel for it's price point.

The S is a great reel period. What the SX was to the Gen 2 Revo line, the S is that to the Gen 3 line. I have the Gen 3 SX and STX, and the S will not be outdone by either. It's buttery smooth, decently light, and casts a mile. I can't say enough about mine.

Yeah mine is so smooth that when I'm reeling it in it feels like the drag is set to the weakest it can be and being hung up on something while I turn the crank.

I've twice had to look down to see if the reel was taking in line.

I bought one during the classic and so far I love it! I'm young and broke and didn't really want to spend the money but I'm glad I did! It smooth and solid and I have caught some monsters on it! I would definitely recommend it.

I have had the same thing happen to me a couple of times!

Buttery smooth? Haha. I have never thrown one, but my son has and loves his. I am a fan of Abu and have my share of STX's, Toro's, and C3's
