I've been having terrible luck with bass fishing so far this year since late march to present. Fishing several ponds where people told me good size bass lurked around, and nothing is working. I've tried every possible bait you can think of. Spinnerbait, Super Fluke, Trick Worm, Brush hog, Rage Tail Craws, Various Topwater, and so on. Nothing works. I've heard of spawning bass being stubborn but this stubborn? Most times spawning season is the best bass fishing you can do. Any advice?

I fish mostly Texas rigs when pond fishing. It's about as easy as you can do it.

What are your conditions? What's the air temp/ water temp?

Lots of bass are going to be in the shallows right now. You have to fish smart. Cold fronts and bad weather the fish are going back to deep water or sticking to cover. Are you using the right colors for the water you're fishing in? High vis = bright more natural colors. Low vis = darker colors along with some chartreuse.

I'm in Alabama, but I can catch fish all day long down here in murky water using junebug chartreuse and watermelon red chartreuse ZOOM finesse worms.

It's all about confidence bud, pick something and stick with it for a little while. Try Texas rigging a worm and just cast it, let it sink, lift up, reel, let it sink again, and repeat.

Are you not having luck at all, or just no big ones. Big bass got big by one of two ways, playing it smart, or low fishing pressure

Sometimes you can throw your entire tackle box at spawning bass and they won't bite a single thing.

Texas rigging is great, either weighted, or weightless, but also try wacky rigging the worms.

Make sure you slow down on soft plastics. Not knowing how you fish them, you may be moving them too fast, not letting them sit long enough... 2 cents...

Aww, boo hoo. I haven't even gotten out this year and it doesn't look like I will for quite some time.

(snark exiting, thanks)

i used to fish ponds alot when i was younger, i know they get alot of salemanders out here, i would use a 4-6 in lizard, texas rigd and just creep it along the cover as slow as possible. any watermelon colors are an easy choice. hard up try a floating worn with no weight.

my mistake luck this season so far has been that it has been rainy or cold or I've had stuff to do on my days off and I've only got to go once this year so far.   Maybe I'll get to go Wednesday.  I got stuff to do today and weather tomorrow is supposed to be unpleasant -  colder and wetter than I want to deal with.

Thats not bad luck thats tough fishing. I had a day two weeks ago where...

I ripped my boat cover end to end down the middle at the launch

Stepped in dog crap and tracked it all through my boat before I noticed

Motor wouldnt start for 15 mins

Lost the keys to the hitch lock and had to cut it off

Smacked my head on the boat and gashed it open

Thats bad luck

Man love it when you track dog crap everywhere.  It's the best smelling thing ever!  Really love it, I hope the dog owners continue to not take care of their responsibility as a dog owner.  I really love it more when they let their dog crap in my front yard, it makes me enjoy mowing my lawn more!

I am sorry for your bad luck but it will end. Have you tried a weightless senko or stick worm? Just cast it out on your spinning tackle and let it sink then slowly drag it along the bottom. If they are shallow at the moment, even on beds, you will want the worm to sit still for a few minutes before moving it.

A bass will swim up and look at it and then watch it before they strike. On beds, you will want to drag the worm close to the bed and let it sit and then after a minute or two drag the bait into the bed and again let it sit still. This is when the male will take it. Shakey heads work well to with 6 inch worms and even 8-10 inch worms.

Get some good polarized fishing glasses and walk very quietly when approaching the ponds.

Hope this helps along with the other advice given. You will catch something just keep it up.
