Nrx Is... Awesome

Caught 6 keepers (in spite of the cold front) pitching 1/4 oz jigs today on my new (to me) NRX 893C JWR. The rod pretty much blows my older Powell Max out of the water- which it rightly should, considering the difference in price. I'm not sure I would have caught less fish with the Max, but the NRX sure makes it a lot more fun.

 

Fishing with 12 lb Tatsu, I could feel every submerged dollar pad leaf, every stem; even some algae that the jig occasionally picked up off the bottom (jig would feel "funny"). The level of crispness and clarity is amazing, I couldn't feel (distinguish between) half the stuff on the bottom with the Powell, and that was when I fished with braided line. Rocks vs brush vs weeds vs laydowns was never a problem with the Max of course, but this is like watching a movie in a much higher resolution.

No doubt about it, they are unreal sensitive. Easily the best bottom contact rods I have ever used.

I plan on getting the 893 in the new GLX line. I will pair it with a Steez 100, and use it for senkos.

The NRX 893 is outright amazing. I have two of them, and they are worth everything I have spent on them.  The sensitivity is off the charts, but beyond that it is extremely pleasurable to fish with. It will absolutely LAUNCH senkos and is an excellent jig/t-rig rod up to 1/2oz in moderate cover. I own a few NRX's and the 893 is my favorite. I have one of mine rigged with Tatsu and the other rigged with Shooter. I like pairing Shimano Curado 50e's on these.

 

Hooligan, are you mentioning the GLX 894, or do you know something I don't? It is about time some more options arrive in the NRX series. Loomis has done a wonderful job expanding the GLX lineup. The 894 is on my "To get list" I would love to try one out to see how it compares with the NRX 893.

 

Powell max's still are decent rods for their price, but after fishing with high end rods it is tough to go back. I still use my 683c as a topwater/jerkbait rod ATM.

Actually, the Mike Long is a 784.  7'8" and a 4 power.  My wife had given me one as a gift, but I never put time on it.  I opted for a Dobyns Champion Extreme 745 as I wanted something a bit more stout that I could also use light flipping.    Great stick.

The rod I'm referring to here is the NRX though, the same can be said of the new GLX. I honestly do not feel you're losing too much from the NRX by comparison now. Yes you lose a bit, but it is not so substantial that you're going to miss fish.

895? It's a total and complete stud in the GLX.

Tough call, DX 745 or GLX 895.  It would be nice to be able to give them both an "on the water" test before deciding.  My gut feel is that the GLX will be a tad more sensitive but maybe is a little underpowered compared to the Dobyns.  One strong plus for me with the Dobyns is their service.  Decisions, decisions...

The rod I'm referring to here is the NRX though,

But there is no 894 in the NRX line.

 

I have NRX803, 853(2), 893, 854 and 873(2) in casting rods. I personally don't think the 893 fishes any better than the 853. Both are great rods that seem to excel at the same things. But if I were buying another of those 2 models today, I'd go for the extra 4 inches. Just no downside to it for me, so why not get the longer one?

TheHookup has a ton of rep sample rods right now. It's my understanding that they come with the full warranty and wildcard.

I bought the GLX 853, 854 and 894 this year, my first Loomis.  I was sold once I picked up one of these guys.  (853) It was like it was an extension of your arm.  Everyone states that I've seen everywhere the two best models are the 893 and 894.  That is not to say the other suck though.  I decided to spend the money on jig rods as I like to fish jigs and worms a lot, my favorite way of fishing.  I got them all below retail price, 1 of them used.  You should be able to find a deal if you look around, (The 853 and 894 were bought on sale 10% and 25% off.)  The next one I'm going for is either the 893 or 895/855.  I did think about getting the NRX version of the 893, but I hear also the newer GLX 893 is no slouch against the NRX as it has been overhauled recently.  Still the NRX beats it with sensitivity and I hear crispness.

I don't think I'll ever buy an NRX that isn't a rep sample.(not just becuase I can't afford them at full priceLOL)

You will get your wildcard if you send out for it. Loomis is in compliance with THUT's rep sample NRX's. Can say this from personal experience.

NRX casting rods come with a mix of guides, with most of them being very small recoil guides. Close to the same size as the micro's I have on my Z-Bone, but I don't think they officially call them micro's.

The 803 has 3 Fuji Titanium framed SIC Guides followed with 7 Rec Recoil Black Ion coated Nickle Titanium Guides. Great little stick that feeds right into your thinking..... Go for it.

Right, I'm speaking to the effect of the 893 being the best rod in the NRX and the 894 being the best in the GLX. The best rods in the respective series.

I fished with my NRX 803 for the first time today....and it was amazing.  It was a Demo rod, in perfect condition, from The Hook Up.  I think this will be perfect for bottom fishing the shallows here in Orlando.  It literally felt like I was dragging my hand across the bottom, that is how much feel this rod has.  

 

There is one really bad part though.........I was fishing with my Legend Extreme right after....and the NRX made me want to get rid of my LEs and add to the NRX collection.  I'm a huge St Croix fan....but this experience was eye-opening, and potentially very costly.

HAHA that is why I've been resisting on touching/holding any Loomis brands.  Just holding them (GLX) in store SOLD me, I've tried to resist touching a NRX, but to no avail.  This thread is making my mind up to buy the NRX 893 as my next rod.
