dyerfish Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 What brands of adhesive do you guys use for your boats, I just picked up a tube of e-6000 marine from walmart for 1/3 of the price of 3m 5200,do you guys think it will be just as good ? Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted April 19, 2013 Super User Posted April 19, 2013 I use 3M 5200 and I've got only one bit of advice. Do not use it on anything you may need or want to take apart in the future. The stuff is darn near indestructible. It is a great product. I don't know anything about the Walmart product. But you usually get what you pay for. Tell us a bit more. What are you going to use it for? Quote
dyerfish Posted April 19, 2013 Author Posted April 19, 2013 sealing bolt holes, screw holes, etc, do you think it would hold my transducer without screwing new holes in the hull ? Quote
Super User slonezp Posted April 19, 2013 Super User Posted April 19, 2013 They sell 1oz tubes of 5200 for under $10 Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted April 19, 2013 Super User Posted April 19, 2013 When you say sealing bolt and screw holes, are those holes you just want to plug, or will you be putting screws and bolts into or through those holes? If you want to plug the holes, I'd go with the 3M 5200. If you are still going to put fasteners in or through those holes, all you need is a marine grade silicone sealant. You certainly don't want 3M 5200 on the fasteners. If you need to remove them in the future, you might find it all but impossible. Quote
dyerfish Posted April 19, 2013 Author Posted April 19, 2013 I want to plug the holes for the old transducer ,until I buy gelcoat, and I would use the sealent to. Seal any other screws etc, I also wonder if its strong enought to glue my new transducer to the boat instead of making more holes Quote
