Super User Scott F Posted April 18, 2013 Super User Posted April 18, 2013 How many guys take fishing vacations without the wife and kids? Or if you do take family members, you still spend an entire week fishing all day, every day. I've been lucky enough to take 2 to 4 weeks of fishing trips every year for the last 30 years. For me, nothing is more fun than spending a week in a lakeside cabin with a group of die hard fishermen doing nothing but fishing, eating and sleeping. Right now, I'm counting down the days till my first trip of the year to Northern Wisconsin for two weeks of pre-spawn smallie and largemouth fishing. My wife used to take half the trips with me, but she no longer goes. It's getting difficult to find other guys who have the time and money to take a week or longer fishing trip anymore. I can no longer afford the fly-in Canadian trips I used to take. In the last 10 years, the price of a fly-in trip has doubled and my income has stayed flat. What kind of trips are you going on this year? Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted April 18, 2013 Super User Posted April 18, 2013 You are a blessed man. I am lucky to get the weekends I do with 4 kids running around. At this point I need to get at least 2 out of the house to afford the boat I want. Quote

Super User slonezp Posted April 18, 2013 Super User Posted April 18, 2013 I take my son every year and my father comes along more often than not. We have been to Reelfoot, Bull Shoals, Table Rock, Santee Cooper, Guntersville twice, Lake Toho, KY Lake 1/2 dozen times, Lake Shelbyville, Rend Lake, and Door County been going for 40 years. We fish 10-12 hours a day, nothing else. The ol' lady will go to Door County on occasion because my folks have a summer home hence the accommodations are nicer than the dumps we normally stay at and she can shop. In answer to your question, it's Door Co. this year. I've had some health issues so I don't want to make any long term plans I may have to change. I can just pack up and go to Door Co. whenever. joefish Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Been going to Rainy Lake for the last 25+ years. Group of guys has changed over time due to jobs, death etc. Awesome time fishing 9 to 12 hours a day and hanging around the cabin with a cigar and beer in the evenings. Can't wait to get through the next 6 weeks to go again. Quote
bassinSC Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 i sure hope i find the time, money and a group of poeple to do this with. Quote
drew4779 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 With my girls in school now, I haven't been able to get away like I could years past. We would go to St.Clair, Cumberland, dale hollow, Erie, even the boundary waters. I would love to get back to the boundary waters some day but I may be able to find my way back to St.Clair this year. I love St.Clair smallies. Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted April 19, 2013 Super User Posted April 19, 2013 I got married last month and the wife and I are hoping to take at least a 3 night trip to this little resort in the Poconos some time soon for honeymoon. Nice little cabin right on the lake (I think its called Lake Fairview) and each cabin has its own little aluminum boat you can use for fishing. They had some pictures on their website of fish caught by some of the guests and they looked really promising. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted April 19, 2013 Super User Posted April 19, 2013 As a younger man I made 5 trips to the Algoma region, stopped an outfitter to rent my canoe and provisions at the Soo, then portaged thru a series of lakes and streams, each trip was 7-10 days, I'm too old for that now. I own a timeshare in Cabo San Lucas as well staying at my sister resort in Puerta Vallarta have done a number of offshore trips. Nowadays I'll drive down to the keys and do some beach fishing or up to Sebastion, my wife will sit on the beach an dread while I'm fishing, mostly go there and back in a day but stay over night sometimes. My most favorite trip, without my wife, was here.......http://www.costadecocos.com/, flying over to the Bahamas may be more convenient and my will want to go, so there will more for her to do. Quote
gr8outdoorz Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Most all of my/fiancee vacations are fishing. I spend 25-50 days a year vacationing at my favorite trout river. Headed to Alaska for 2 weeks this summer for a salmon run. Gotta mark "King Salmon" off the bucket list. Quote
zwhiten12 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Me and my dad are heading down to okeechobee this summer for my graduation present. I can't wait! Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted April 19, 2013 Super User Posted April 19, 2013 Family comes first. And my wife just isn't as gung-ho as I am. But then, almost no one is. (sigh) Quote
B@ssCrzy Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Don't know that I will EVER get to fish for a whole week 10-12 hours per day, but I do get a couple of weekends a year. That being said my kids are growing up way to fast and at this time don't know that I would want to be away from them for that long. Maybe when they are out of the house me and the wife will be able to do something like that, but while they are young I don't want to miss a thing. They are too much fun. 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted April 19, 2013 Super User Posted April 19, 2013 Heading to PA in the morning. Will be spending a week bouncing around Lake Erie chasing the Pre-spawn Bronze Bass with the man, the myth, the legend - Dwight Hottle. Did the same trip last spring (and this past fall). It was pretty wild. Several Big Fish & 2 PBs. Those trips went so well we hooked up with BR 00 mod (Jeff) and the three of us spent a week on Lake Baccarac in Mexico this past March. That was Epic with about 5 PBs. We're already planning the next one. A-Jay 1 Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 My wife likes to go with me so I bring her. We will be going to the Roadtrip this year and then to Lake St Clair for a week also. As of right now that is the only 2 trips we have planned. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted April 19, 2013 Super User Posted April 19, 2013 You're lucky wish I can do those...right now I go on trips, but it's with the family and I don't normally get the time to do a full day of fishing. Usually early morning and after dinner for a couple of hours. Can't take those kind of trips yet, I have two youngin's my wife would be overrun by them. lol I'm trying to get my boy (youngest 3) into fishing, so far so good guy takes his Cars rod and flips senkos/stick baits into the water, hasn't caught anything yet, but he's very "into it". Just have to watch him not to hit anyone. My end game is to have a fishing partner, who better than my own son! That way we can take trips together without the girls (Wife and Daughter). Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted April 19, 2013 Super User Posted April 19, 2013 I'm going to Sam Rayburn for a week here on May 18th. Just me and a good friend fishing the whole time. I'm really excited for it. Quote
rangerboy Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 been awhile but i spent a week at el salto with my grandfather. they had little houses at the resort and you were free to fish all day. not much for the kids if they wanted to come. Quote
Helluva_Engineer Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 My fiancee likes to come along, but it sure is a lot cheaper splitting the trips with other guys. Unfortunately, not that many people in my age range like to fish enough to go on a trip for it. Quote
