wack Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Can someone help me out. I'm trying to get away from 'senko' fishing. The problem is whenever I throw a trick worm or finesse worm, I get nothing. Next cast, I throw a t-rigged senko in the same spot and I get a hit. I have a ton of soft plastics and try craws, lizards etc but nothing seems to work but the senko. Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 So you don't want to catch fish is what you are saying.................................If something is working why would you want to get away from it? GEEEZ Quote
Josh Bassman Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I like to throw everything... even the kitchen sink. My fishing partner is always giving me crap about not fishing with what is working. There is nothing wrong with working with different baits. It takes time and practice to figure them out. Someday, when the money is on the line, you'll be happy that you took the time to improve your skills. Quote
JigMe Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Sometimes Senko will produce for me when everything else fails, and why do you want to get away from something that is working? Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted May 16, 2010 Super User Posted May 16, 2010 Try doing it in reverse; search with the Senko until you locate the fish you are after, then shift your presentation to something else that you are not as confident in. I guarantee your confidence with expand rapidly this way. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted May 16, 2010 Super User Posted May 16, 2010 So you don't like to catch fish ? Quote
jdw174 Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 I figure I oughta dance with who brung me, and the Senko (or senko types) is practically all I've fished with so far this year. Rigging them Wacky or Texas style weightless, they're doing the dirty on both LM and SM. Quote
Gamec0cks5 Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 I hear where you are coming from OP. I like to try everything and figure out why they like this over that etc... But like said above I would use the senko first to find the fish and critique your presenstation on your finesse stuff. I have torn up the LMBs on stick baits this year. They love that sexy wiggle ;D Quote
fishermantony Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Maybe a lack of confidence in those other baits is hindering you as well. I've felt completely hopeless with certain baits before I started catching fish with them and now some of those same lures have become my go to baits. Have patience and believe they will catch fish. But also like most others are saying continue to enjoy catching them with the senko, that thing is great! Quote

Mr.Sheephead Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 what your doing wrong I think is that the sinko are fatter than finess and trickworms and when the bass are taking the senko that means they are feeding normally to aggressively and are taking in bigger lures like the fatter senko what you should try since you want to get away from senko fishing is buy bigger fatter worms than the sneko or worms with the senko size but with a twister tail or something. Also what your not trying is the finess and trickworms on a day were FINESS is needed to catch fish on those days for me the small senkos will catch me bass and the slimmer worms will produce better than my senkos. I hopped this helped you. Quote
rboat Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Wack, I understand what you are talkin about. We all know senkos catch bass. Sometimes it is fun to experiment with the hundreds of other soft plastics we all carry along. Fishing is the whole experience. If you caught fish on each cast there would be no challenge. Like others have said, use the senko to locate and then mix it up. Trying new stuff is half the fun and that is how new presentations and new baits (like the senko) are discovered. Quote
LAO162 Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Fat Ikas & Senkos are the only baits that produce consistently for me. However, I understand where Wack is coming from... When the Senko bite slows, it would be good to understand why and when other techniques work. Also, since I fish the same areas every week, I'm afraid of over-exposure to Senkos & Fat Ikas. Yesterday, I did finally catch somethink on a Lizard Quote
D4u2s0t Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 if something is working for you, why would you want to change it? Have to agree with the others here, you don't change a bait when it's working, especially when you know that others aren't. Quote
0119 Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Ive caught one bass on the Senko in 2 years. They were all the bass have been seeing here I suspect, everybody throws them first and foremost. I think its good that you want and do use other things. Become adept with everything. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted May 16, 2010 Super User Posted May 16, 2010 Leave the Senko home and just bring the lure you want to learn and bring different colors and weights. Fish it until the fish make you have confidence. One of these days the Senko won't produce. Atleast you have another "go to" lure to hit-em with. Then start the process again. I do like Crestliner's approach as well. That's a good strategy in my opinion. Quote
