sharpbbd Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 I saw that BASS has postponed day one due to weather conditions today. I am just wondering if BASS has gone a little soft in letting tournaments be dictated by conditions. I understand that bad weather has risks, but shouldn't these tournaments tell us who is the best fisherman in all conditions? Not just blue bird sky days. Fishing in storms is just part of it in my opinion. Just would like to know what everybody thinks. If it was me personally, I would rather fish day one before a front, not after. Conditions will definately be tough tommorrow. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted April 18, 2013 BassResource.com Administrator Posted April 18, 2013 They called it today due to severe thunderstorms in the area, which are forecasted to continue throughout the day. I don't know about you, but there's no way I'd be out on the water when there's lightening all around. 2 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 18, 2013 Super User Posted April 18, 2013 Lightening is a deal breaker. Quote
sharpbbd Posted April 18, 2013 Author Posted April 18, 2013 Several of the Pros were very disappointed, and yeah I have fished in some bad conditions including lightning, not my favorite but it is what it is. I just like what Clunn said about this kind of thing at Falcon. That they would have never postponed events for reasons they do now back then. And I am a new generation fisherman (26 years old). Old school fishing was definately more challenging and showed who the overall best fisherman was. Now its just who can catch em when the fishing is at its best. Most BASS tournaments are scheduled on the best lakes at the best times of the year. Quote
sharpbbd Posted April 18, 2013 Author Posted April 18, 2013 I live in the area, so I know what the storms look like. Fishable as of right now! Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 18, 2013 Super User Posted April 18, 2013 Then why are you online? 4 Quote

Your comment would suggest that you don't follow them at all. Of special note are some very memorable Classics that were fished under just about the worst conditions imaginable.Canceling a day due to lightening seems prudent to me. 1 Quote

sharpbbd Posted April 18, 2013 Author Posted April 18, 2013 Hey roadwarrior, I follow them very closely. I don't understand how you come to that conclussion from my post. Maybe you need to stick to moderating and not posting.  This is a bass talking website, not fishing. J Francho, And I am not fishing because I am on call for work. Would love to be out there right now . 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 18, 2013 Super User Posted April 18, 2013 Bummer, I'm at work, myself. Don't tell the boss! Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted April 18, 2013 Super User Posted April 18, 2013 This is a bass talking website, not fishing. What?  Don't be so quick to fire back at the people that operate this place. You'll have a short stay being that you're only 11 posts in.  There is nothing "soft" about the BASS taking concern over the conditions. No life is worth the money or the fish they pull out of the lakes. And when you say the Pros are disappointed...they mean they are disappointed that the turn of events is keeping them off the lake, not disappointed in the decision made to keep them safe.  Every one of those guys in that circuit respect the decisions that are made on tournament calls. Quote
sharpbbd Posted April 18, 2013 Author Posted April 18, 2013 Im not really concerned about hurting a moderators feelings, I'm sure that would just alter my life not being able to post here. I'm sure that they agree with and respect "every decision" made :/ . Anyways guess I will stop posting before I get in trouble. Yall have a good one. Sorry I got everyones panties in a wad. Not exactly how I figured everyone would respond! Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 18, 2013 Super User Posted April 18, 2013 All opinions are welcome. Discussion is what learning is all about. As long as there are no personal attacks, and it's healthy debate, it's fair game. 1 Quote
hooah212002 Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 I was listening to the radio (670 the score) and they were discussing the course of events that led to Zack Greinke breaking his collar bone and Carlos Quinitin's subsequent suspension/fine. With Chicago being full of meatballs, the hosts were joking that a number of callers would call in and say that baseball needed fighting and catchers blocking home plate or that violence made sports better. This, of course, was said in jest and was meant to be in mocking fashion such that it is not possible that people could really like violence that much. Â Oh how wrong they were. Not only did people call in to say baseball needed the mound charging or home plate blocking, but that other sports did too. Tennis needs fighting. Tiger and Phil should have a boxing match for the #1 world ranking. Why do I bring this up? Because the idea that doing stupid stuff or being violent is somehow "tough" or "makes you a man", or that safety is not manly or makes you "soft" is apparent and far too widespread and frankly, ignorant. Â This thread is a testament to that. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 18, 2013 Super User Posted April 18, 2013 I think the OP is saying the TD jumped the gun on the delay. Forecasted weather, and actual conditions are two completely different animals, as we all know. I don't think BASS is getting soft, to the contrary, some of those waters plain sucked for tournament days. Seems just like baseball when they call events for weather, no rhyme or reason. Quote
sharpbbd Posted April 18, 2013 Author Posted April 18, 2013 I honestly think that this last statement has nothing to do with what I was saying. Let me rephrase how I meant this topic to sounds. I believe that they should have started the day and called it when the weather got SEVERE. Not when the wind was blowing 30 MPH. There was no lightning in the area and that fishing conditions were FISHABLE at the time the tournament was postponed. I would rather see a shortened day with fish being caught with the conditions given. Sorry Hooah that you think I am ignorant. That is a name that I have seldom been called. I never believed that I was more manly than others. I am a big baseball fan as well so let me say that blocking home plate is part of the game, just ask Buster Posey. He never once accused any wrong doing when his leg was horrificly broken. IT IS WHAT IT IS. And who said anything about fighting. Although KVD on IKE's deck going at it would be entertaining LOL. Or Alton and Dean... Just kidding (dont ban me). Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 18, 2013 Super User Posted April 18, 2013 I agree, if the weather conditions are indeed as you observed. As far as baseball goes, blocking the plate, hard slides into second, decoying the runner, are all parts of the game. Charging the mound is not. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted April 18, 2013 BassResource.com Administrator Posted April 18, 2013 Today's forecast: Windy with showers and thunderstorms likely. A few storms may be severe, especially during the morning. Storms may produce large hail and strong winds. High around 70F. Winds WSW at 20 to 30 mph. Rainfall may reach one inch. Â Good call B.A.S.S. Quote

sharpbbd Posted April 18, 2013 Author Posted April 18, 2013 OK guys conditions are pretty rough right now. I'll admit I was wrong on this one but still not sure about the Falcon call. Oh well, man up and admitting I was not right again! Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted April 18, 2013 Super User Posted April 18, 2013 Ummm not only did Buster Posey complain abotu the hit but so did his manager. It even got to the point that Carlos Ruiz fro mthe phillies came out and when asked said if you don't want to get hit then don't play catcher and stop complaining (paraphrasing).  I am all about safety and if they deemed it unsafe to fish then so be it. I would rather err on the side of caution than have one person get hurt in their effort to chase a little green fish. I also feel that if there isn't a full day of fishing that creates an unfair disadvantage to those anglers who may have pre-fished an area that is further away from teh ramp that they may or may not be able to get to in inclement weather. sharpbbd Posted April 18, 2013 Author Posted April 18, 2013 Already read about the carps. Thought it was funny. But as far as baseball goes. Ruiz is right. If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. 1 Quote
sharpbbd Posted April 18, 2013 Author Posted April 18, 2013 Alright ITS OFFICIAL:  Just got off the phone with Don King and the Alton Jones vs. Dean Rojas LightWeight bout is set for July 4th weekend...lol. 2 Quote
AR Fishin Hodge Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 I live in the area and fish the water regularly. This decision was completely weak. Guys I am telling you the storms lasted for a grand total of about 20 minutes. Whats next, canceling tomorrow due to tough post frontal conditions. I am really shocked by this decision and yes we are getting soft as a whole. I don't want someone to get hurt or die doing this, but let em fish for 2 hours, they take cover for 30 minutes tops, and finish out the day, and get a little wet in the process. I've fished extremely small tournaments in conditions worse than this and when we get back to the weigh-in we mention the storm and then go on about our business.  Charging the mound is in no way related to this story and I am not sure why it was brought up. Look at Nascar driving to fast or making a little contact = bad, the NFL hitting players will get you a penalty(and that is not limited to cheap shots, the list goes on and on.  Other than the 30 minutes that it stormed today there was no reason a 12 year old girl couldn't be on the lake in a canoe.  I am not a promoter of dangerous behavior to look tough, but a grown man in a boat with just a little knowledge or common sense would not have any weather related problems on Bull Shoals Lake. Quote
sharpbbd Posted April 18, 2013 Author Posted April 18, 2013 I am glad someone from the area who has first hand knowledge agrees with me. I thought it was weak, but people not remotely close to here understand. Oh well. We will see what tommorrow brings. Quote
