Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted April 18, 2013 Super User Posted April 18, 2013 Now that the assault weapons ban and its other parts have been shot down (pun intended). Ammo and firearms cost should return to normal. Now don't all y'all feel silly that went and paid thousands for these firearms and ammo feel silly? This has been going on for years now. Nothing ever comes from it. Other than panic buying. 1 Quote
mtaag3 Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Well, I wouldn't hold my breath as I think there will be more sets in this work out but it's nice to grab a towel and a swig of Gatorade for a few. Hopefully I can find some primers and powder now. Quote

Hopefully I can find some primers and powder now. With any luck prices will drop as will demand. At least if the previous cycles are an indication. I have been wrong before though. You very well may be correct. Staying as non political as I can. I doubt another play for our firearms and magazines. However, there is still that nagging in the back of my mind that this may not have played out all the way yet. My greatest source of being worry free is that we are in Alabama. I sincerely believe this state would leave the union again if any laws were passed like the assault weapons ban. Especially in todays age and time. Our red necks, country folk, and ghetto dwellers LOVE their firearms. I love that our ghetto dwellers are more hospitable then in other states. Southerners are the greatest regardless of race. Others play the stock market. I play the firearms market. Not as much since my son was born. I still try to when money permits. 1 Quote
nick76 Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 I agree with you Raider about things returning to normal. It will take a little time, but it will get there. The only issue will be that normal will probably cost a little more than it used to back in November. The dealers and manufacturers know they can increase their prices a little and improve their bottom line, customers will continue to buy. Quote
unageo09 Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Ammo shelves are starting to not be so bare around here. I started noticing about a week ago that some things were a little easier to find than before. You still have to get lucky to get any 9mm or 22 but I suppose with time that will get better. I have 1500 rounds of 22 lr so I don't need any of that but I bought a Ruger .380 LCP and didn't like it so traded up to a SR9c and would like to put something besides junk ammo through it. I guess for practicing its okay though. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted April 21, 2013 Super User Posted April 21, 2013 I doubt the prices will drop to where they should, remember when gas kept going up and never dropped... Now it's like a seasonal blend comes in and drops a few pennies and we're all like OMG gas went down Quote
nick76 Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 I was just at a gun show yesterday and ammo prices have come down just a touch, but nothing that the day of the week wouldn't reflect normally. 9mm and 22lr are still through the roof, but can be found. I did manage to find boxes of 50 rounds reloaded 9mm for $16 and 50 rounds of 22lr were going for $10 for a box of thunderbolts. Cheapest brick I found was $95. The prices will drop, just not all the way back down. Couple of the larger vendors were saying that the primers and powder were still limited so reloaders were struggling too. It is all supply and demand. If the MFG's can keep the balance we will never see "cheap" ammo again. It will have an inflated premium. You could find rifles there too and the prices had dropped considerably. The prices on accessories has increased though. All those people who bought guns are trying to trick them out now. Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted April 21, 2013 Author Super User Posted April 21, 2013 95 dollars for a brick of .22lr?! That is the most insane thing I have ever heard of! I bought a box of .17hmr two days ago for 10 dollars. Which is pretty much the same I have been paying for the last seven years. Give or take a dollar or so. I can't believe .22 could come close to that in value. All I can say is wow. Heck my brother in law paid 25 a box for critical defense 9mm two day ago. Even that seems about the same as it used to be. The Glock 17 I was looking at was still priced the same as it was before all this started. As was the Remington 700 .308 tactical with the threaded barrel. Quote
nick76 Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Back in January the prices around here spiked, but most of it was at the dealer level due to demand. Most couldn't get the guns, and when they did they inflated the prices cause some nut would pay it. At the shows the prices went up about 15-20%, they are coming back down now. The only place I still seen big inflation were for the SKS.....you could get those guns for $200-300 and now they are $500 or more all day. Everyone that grabbed those 22lr bricks quickly put them back and then said some choice words to those selling them. It was ridiculous. Now we wait for the supply to resume. I haven't seen a 17 round in short supply here. The prices have actually dropped here lower than before this all started for that round. Quote
mtaag3 Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 What cracks me up the most is all the hoarders that but a ton of ammo/products when this first happened thinking they were going to make a killing reselling it and now it looks like they'll be sitting on huge losses. Wait in about 6 months to a year and you wont believe the deals you'll be able to find. Â When the hoarding first started I was at BPS picking up a few things and a guy bought 4-8lb jugs of powder. I started talking to him about reloading and shooting and he didn't do either!! He just wanted to try to triple his money. I should have got his phone number as I bet he's ticked now. Quote
mtaag3 Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Here's proof some semblance of normalcy has returned  Quote

Wait in about 6 months to a year and you wont believe the deals you'll be able to find. There are plenty of guys who did triple their money. Those who got out a month ago with product did good. Those to got our since then can do good, but no triple their $$. Same with ammo and guns. I got plenty of everything by October and sat on it. I did not intend to sell, but wanted it for protection and for sport. Worked out well for me. I had plenty of offers to buy, just didn't do it. Quote
mtaag3 Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 I feel sorry for the guys who paid triple for a product that didn't go up .01 in price from the manufacturer. Quote
Brian Needham Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Â sure hope you are right, I need 9mm and I been having issues finding it at a reasonable price......plus maybe I can buy that new glock now if prices get stable Quote

The Walmart by my house told me a certain time every day. I sat there and watched him roll up with a shopping cart full of ammo. One case of white box 9mm for $20 a box. 1 Quote
unageo09 Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 They told us that our Walmart gets a truck every day. I was in there yesterday about 3 and asked if they had any 9mm and there were about 4 boxes they hadn't even gone through yet. He flipped through them but no luck. Dick's truck runs Thursday night and they put there ammo out Friday morning. Truck day at Gander is a circus. You have to get there an hour before they open to stand in line, get a number, then come back at 12 when they start calling numbers out. If you are lucky they still have what you need, if not your day is shot. I did it one time and there were about 150 people standing back there. They ran out of 9 before they got to me, I was the first name on the second page. I was upset but its just the nature of the game I guess. I won't devote time to that again but may try to get to Dick's one Friday morning. They're cheaper there anyway. Quote
unageo09 Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 I've bought 200 rounds of PMC 115 gr FMJ and 50 rounds of American Eagle 115 gr FMJ and 50 rounds 147 gr FMJ 9mm over the past week. All bought locally and not online. Ready for for the range next week! Quote
GeorgiaBassBros Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 They should be coming down back to normal here soon. But I never really worry too much about any of the gun laws, knowing that they will never pass in georgia. I strongly believe that we will secede again before we give up our guns. 1 Quote

I don't know if y'all are as fiesty as the twin states (Alabama and Mississippi). Y'all might stick around a bit longer. These two would be gone before the ink was dry on the bill. They said the bama legislature proposed a bill, stating that all Alabama residents could own firearms regardless of their history. If the US Senate bill and assault weapons ban passed. The governor had to step in and put an end to it. Telling them that certain groups are not allowed firearms regardless of what they may think. Apparently we can't flaunt the US government to that degree. I just thought it was funny that it was even brought up. We don't play with the second amendment down here. 1 Quote
RyneB Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I wish Illinois would think like other states. Illinois does everything in there power to keep guns away from us. It is working, look at Chicago, no one gets shot there.   Quote

We dont play here either, in my town it is required by law that every home have a gun and sufficient ammunition. Yall might go first, but we would be right behind. If i remember correctly i saw we passed some kind of law that said we would follow our own gun laws rather than any passed by the federal government. Quote

unageo09 Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Went to Gander Mountain last Friday and found plenty of Remington 9 mm in 50 round boxes and in bulk 300 boxes. They also had several Blazer Brass bulk boxes as well. Their truck runs Thursday so it just didn't disappear overnight but it was all gone by Monday. Word is they also had some .22's, Federal I think, in bulk boxes of 300. They were there until Friday morning. Maybe they just got a big truck in, maybe things are slowing down a bit. Not sure which but a good sign i think. Quote
unageo09 Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Actually found some 9mm on the shelf at walmart tonight. Remington and Federal. It may be showing up there more but I don't go in there very often. 9mm is actually pretty easy to get around here now. A little .22 showing up but still not much. Quote
