Ozark'nIT Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 I recently bought a "lightly used" Citica off ebay. Ended up being very used and instead of the hassle of sending it back the seller gave me a decent refund. The drive shaft is loose and moves in and out about an 1/8th of an inch. I took it apart to clean and upgrade the drag and drive shaft bearing and I did not see anywhere that I could tighten to fix the issue, I was curious if anyone has run into an issue like this. I have searched all over google and cannot find a fix. The real is usable but it drives me nuts. Thanks in advance. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted April 17, 2013 Super User Posted April 17, 2013 Might need shims under ur cast control Quote
Ozark'nIT Posted April 17, 2013 Author Posted April 17, 2013 Shims make sense. I'll compare with my other citica. Where would I find said shims? Thanks a lot by the way. Quote
War Eagle 44 Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 For what it's worth I have 4 Citica 201 E's and all 4 of them have the "problem" you're describing. Mine don't move an 1/8th of an inch but nevertheless they do move. All 4 of mine I purchased new and they've done this since day one. Most of my Shimano's do this, it doesn't bother me and it's never been a problem while fishing but I can understand where it would bother some guys. I'm not at all trying to tell you not to try and fix your reel, all I wanted to do was to let you know that there may not be anything wrong with it from a mechanical stand point. On a side note of sorts, I love these reels, especially for their price. I got a slight discount on mine because I purchased them all at once, I paid $99 each. I use them a TON and they just keep on keeping on. I plan to upgrade the drags, spool bearings, and the one bushing in all of them very soon. They're also super easy to tear down and work on or service when needed. I plan on picking up a new Chronarch 201E5 this year as well for a 7'7" Cumara Reaction I have that currently doesn't have a reel on it. Quote
Ozark'nIT Posted April 17, 2013 Author Posted April 17, 2013 I love the citica too. I've upgraded the bearings on my other one and it is a whole new real. That citica and my curado e both have some movement that feels normal. The bad citica is a whole other story though. There is something missing for sure. On another note I am also looking at a chronarch. There is an outdoor store on ebay sling them for around 170. Quote

At the end of the crank shaft under the BNT3485 idler gear you should have BNT31 bearing pack, BNT3130 washer, BNT686 e-clip holding it all together. If you don't have them like that you need to get them there... Good Luck Quote
Ozark'nIT Posted April 17, 2013 Author Posted April 17, 2013 .rm. They were on there but I didn't see a need to put then on with the bearing upgrade. Btw it was loose before the up grade too. Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted April 18, 2013 Super User Posted April 18, 2013 I think this is the same thing RM was saying, but anyway just add a 2144 washer or two and it will fix your problem. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Some movement is normal and each part is there for a reason. Do as suggested above and you'll be fine. Quote

There is NO such thing as a perfectly tight (no slop) reel. They all have +/- tolerances used in their individual assemblies NO getting around them... As stated by Mike "each part is there for a reason".. Tight Lines! Quote
Ozark'nIT Posted April 18, 2013 Author Posted April 18, 2013 Thanks guys. Now I just need to find a few of those washers. Quote
barroncooper Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 citica has the bushing but you can replace the bushing with the bearing if you want. my curados, cores, and chronarch's all have what you describe. alignment comes from the anti reverse bearing and the drive and pinion gear. I think you're good Quote
