How are the micro guides on spinning rods iv been looking for a new spinning rod for my stradic Ci4. Iv been looking at the villain being I'm an Abu guy and seen they have micro guide version as does falcon boocoo rods.

What's everyone's thoughts or experiences with micro guide spinning rods

I have 3, 2 spinning and one casting all

St croix rage series and I haven't noticed any negative performance issues. That being said, I haven't noticed any gains either.

It doesn't seem like they help or hurt other than weight savings so if you like the rods then go for it.

Reasons i dont use microguide rods are i fish year round and they ice up quicker, also im leary about my leader knots getting stuck. Im perfectly happy with the size guides on my older cumaras and cumulus rods.

If you use braid+ leader, I would be weary.  I know it works for some guys, but I didn't like it.

I run braid with a leader so I had issues casting through the guides especially if cold on there is junk in the water.   I stay away now with spinning rods at least...

Micro guides come in different sizes. The actual size of the guide and the connections that need to pass should be considered. In general, a light spinning rod benefits greatly from the weight savings of micro guides.

I just don't care for micros. I have a couple rods that I love DESPITE the micro guides, but in general, I won't be buying any more, because they just don't do well with passing leader knots. Like I said, I have a couple rods I like anyway that have them, but I prefer standard guides on spinning.

i would love the weight savings for a spinning rod. Most of my baitcasters are now micros BUT i dont run braid on those. I do on my spinning and dont think i would like the knot going through those.
