Gavin S. Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 I just bought a new Saros 3000FA and was reading thru the pamphlet that came with it and saw that Shimano recommends loading the line as shown in the photo below. But I've been taught to load line on spinning reels by holding the new line spool perpendicular to the reel in a way that emulates the way the line is naturally shaped from being on the spool packaging. I don't know if this matters or makes sense, but thanks for any input you might have. Oh and, great forum you have here. Quote
Super User .RM. Posted April 13, 2013 Super User Posted April 13, 2013 Don't know what that is about, mostly a BC user. When I load the boss' spinning rigs, I don't worry about line twist from the filler.I always place the lined spool front side down into a small bowl. Then poor some almost hot water slowly into the bowl and to heat the fresh laid line. I let it sit for about 15min, dry the spool and then line her rods. This is how I reset a new memory in the line. Been doing it a good long time.Tight Lines! Edit: I should have noted that it is only Mono I do this with. Quote
Gavin S. Posted April 13, 2013 Author Posted April 13, 2013 Thanks RM. This is what I was talking about, FWIW. Quote
Super User Marty Posted April 13, 2013 Super User Posted April 13, 2013 Despite the video saying that bails can spin in either direction, in 40 years of using spinning reels, I never saw one that didn't spin clockwise (when viewed from the front of the reel). At any rate, the video's method of spooling was correct, although I don't think he described it very well. When reels started coming with anti-twist rollers (Daiwa's Twist Buster, Shimano's Power Roller, etc.) the spooling instructions changed to the way that's pictured in your original post. In my personal experience I could notice no difference between the two methods. I now use braid and spool it the traditional way for no other reason that old habits. Quote
hooah212002 Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Keep a bottle of KVD Line and Lure with you and line twist is a thing of the past. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted April 14, 2013 Super User Posted April 14, 2013 I've been using the hot water method for eons, the last few years I've added liquid fabric softener to the water. The warm water limps up the line and prevents coiling and it works wonderfully. This is not a permanent fix, periodically I will take the spool off the reel and soak it. L & L works fine, but so does water, probably I only purchased it one time. Line twist is a totally different issue, the action of line being "wrapped" around a fixed spool on a spinner will cause twist, the type of lure being used can make that twist even more dramatic. No deviation ever for me, when using mono or copoly, spinning or conventional reel, my line is always trolled out either before my outing or as my outing is ending. I troll out about 98% of the line just leaving a few wraps around the spool, even if the reel holds 300 yds. Quote
