Kind of a newbie question.  This year, I'm planning on using snaps to connect to my hard-body baits (of all sorts).  I just like the idea of being able to change baits more quickly without having to retie.  For those lures that have a split ring connected to the attachment point, should I take it off and connect the snap to the attachment point directly or the or leave it on and connect the snap to that ring?

Thanks in advance.

I'll be interested to hear what others say as I started using snaps last fall. I usually connect straight to the split ring and haven't noticed any difference from tying direct.

I like tying direct to the loop on the bait.never tried a swivel or snap ring .

I use a snap on all my crank baits. No split ring. I tie to the snap then connect snap to front loop on the bait. I personally believe this allows the bait to wiggle better. I have been fly fishing for most of my life & I learned a long time ago to tie flies on with a loop knot (with the exception of dry flies) as to allow them to move more naturally in the water . When I started bass fishing I kind of carried that mentality with me.

I use snaps for all my crankbaits and I just snap iit into the split ring on the front.  Haven't had any issues to make me change.

Same here. Never noticed any change in the lure's action.

Probably makes little difference but I remove the split ring, except on the few plugs where the line tie is set too deep in the bill to get a snap into.

I also will use a snap

I just find it easier to change up my crankbaits when I'm fishing different parts of a lake with different depths/vegetation

I attach the snap to the split ring.

It works fine especially b/c you can get pretty small snaps that are tougher to see than a giant treble hook.
