Swampstud Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I pretty much gave up on hunting, tough to find decent land anymore without shellin out hundreds to lease property. The EHD that hit our deer herd 2yrs ago really pushed me out of it, along with my jealous idiot neighbor. I usually give up work as many days as i can get away with to go fishing, vacation, sick, and just call in days it doesnt matter. Whether its bass or ice fishing the only thing thats a bigger priority is family. Lol i love the look on the bosses face when i turn down saturday n sunday just cuz i want to be fishing, its priceless. Yall should try it Quote
hoosierbass07 Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Â Two year ago I got into RC flying. Â I love flying electric gliders. Â Then last year I got into bass fishing and did not fly much last year. Â Now I'm trying to do both, fish for bass and fly. Â Quote
skeeter1980 Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I deer hunted and wabbit hunted, for many years.I blew out both knees, and went on ss disability two years ago.About six years ago I got into grilling and smoking foods big time.So that took the place of me hunting.Last summer I bought a bass boat and got back into fishing, after not fishing since the 80's.Now this spring,my cooking outside been put on hold, while I fish almost everyday.I still grill and smoke meat, just not so much. This summer when the temps are hot during the day,I can cook outside, and fish all night. blongfishing Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I try not to leave that hobby but fishing and racing season are at the same time. The prime days to fish are the days I go to the race track. Friday and Saturday are hometown tracks where my family races and Sunday it's nascar on TV. My hobby of hunting is still here.Hunt in winter fish and race in spring and summer. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted April 30, 2014 Super User Posted April 30, 2014 I used to be an avid golfer until I took up fishing. Â Haven't touched my clubs in 2 years now. Â Quote
thehooligan Posted April 30, 2014 Author Posted April 30, 2014 Ive barely got out fishing this year, between work, i had the flu, etc. Hoping to get out this weekend and start chasing some bass. Im dedicating this year to swimbaits so it should be interesting.... Quote
Chance_Taker4 Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I think everything goes on the backburner when it comes to golf for me. However if I have only limited time I would rather throw a quick line in the water or ride my motorcycle. 1 Quote
phototex Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I dearlly love photography, but my cameras have been gathering (too much) dust lately due to bassin'. Quote
John Hansen Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Trap shooting still takes priority over fishing for me. Â Partially because I shot trap throughout most of the fall and all of the winter so through the winter I am not fishing much. Â Don't ride the dirt bike much anymore, but it is handy to get into some remote back country lakes and fish. Â Mountain Biking doesn't happen much either. Â Fishing is just nice because for me at least, I can spend a weekend doing it without spending a ton of money I can bring people along with me. Â All of that is great in college. 1 Quote
NathanW Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 It has been years since I have had any other hobbies. What I do now besides bass fishing is only done to please my wife and kids. That includes work, family stuff, chores around the house. And trust me while I am doing those things I am mostly thinking about bass fishing. It is a sad case of addiction and I feel sorry for my wife. Quote
Super User Sam Posted April 30, 2014 Super User Posted April 30, 2014 Only "hobby" that I will sacrifice fishing to is college football, and it depends on who is playing. Â If it is LSU then I watch the game. Â If it is another school I may or may not watch the game and fishing is OK. Â Otherwise, I don't have any other "hobbies." Quote
0119 Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 The same thing happened to me that ww2farmer said. I bicycle road raced. The clubs members became exclusive in attitude. If you didn't agree with their political and business views they snubbed you and clicks formed and lots of internal back biting. I got tired of being looked down on for only being a cop and not in business. I was building up bikes for years but now a good bike costs close to ten grand, a nice bike well over. One season I didn't ride to enjoy a particularly good bass spawn and never went back. Quote
basscatcher8 Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 I put fishing on the backburner for racing the last several years. This year I decided I wanted to get back to more fishing and hunting. So its hard cause my best friend who I crew chiefed for forever and won races and championships is still racing but thats ok cause I am getting Married in the next month and she loves to fish and hunt so I bought a new boat this year and were getting ready for our first crappie trip of the year and I'm thrilled cause I've wanted to do this forever and couldnt cause of racing. I still have all my friends at the track and go out and hang out now and then but its great to be back to making jigs and soft plastics and planning fishing trips. Quote
NathanW Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Gene did a video a while back where he tried to catch a fish with every item that was sent in that particular months box. He did a swell job of it too. Â Â It's where you take your newly arrived Mystery Tackle Box out on the water, open it when you get there, and challenge yourself to catch a fish on every lure that is in it. Cool. Thats what I figured it was. That sounds like a lot of fun. A buddy and I used to do this with new and sometimes unusual baits came out. We would bet LC/Spro crankbaits on who could catch one first on the chosen bait. We still have yet to catch anything on those gigantic 4.5" Reaction Innovation beavers, a bet that is two years running. Lol. Quote
sparky241 Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 i have put shooting on the back burner and golf is now in 3rd place Quote
Nelson Wormefeller Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Two years ago I dropped R/C airplanes like a hot potato once I got serious about fishing and kayaking. So now I fish/kayak/canoe in summer and melt my brain in winter playing video games. Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted May 1, 2014 Super User Posted May 1, 2014 my golf and disc golf time has basically diminished to the point of non existent..... fishing is just so d*mn fun for me Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted May 2, 2014 Super User Posted May 2, 2014 God....Family...Fishing Quote
Super User bigbill Posted May 2, 2014 Super User Posted May 2, 2014 springtime to late fall its fishing. With shooting and hunting inbetween. Winter its gunsmithing and reloading. Quote
Jason Short Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I gave up high school sports, but that's alright; they really weren't any fun anyway. During the spring, summer, and fall bass fishing takes top priority among my hobbies. During the winter I get in a little saugeye fishing before the lakes freeze over, then I start working on reels, hunting, and shooting. Here in Ohio there are plenty of rainy days for me to get a few reels fixed even during fishing season. Quote
Super User Master Bait'r Posted May 2, 2014 Super User Posted May 2, 2014 Since i can remember ive always had a skateboard, bmx bike, car or motorcycle in my hands but always made time for fishing here and there. Now, if i have any free time its right to the lake and im fishing. All my other hobbies have been put on the backburner for the past few years and its hard to do anything else when its the weekend or any other free time i can find.  Am i the only one or has fishing taken over all you're other hobbies as well ?  Ive had bike, car and motorcycle builds on hold for far too long....    My other big passion is skiing.  The excitement of one season beginning is the only thing that gets me over the depression of the other one ending Quote
Derriick Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Defenitely. Shooting my bow, working out and disc golf have taken the back seat for now. Quote
Djman72 Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Life. Girls. Booze. Baseball/Softball Eating Work  All back seat to them bucketmouth beauties. Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted May 2, 2014 Super User Posted May 2, 2014 I will usually hunt instead of going fishing if I think I would have a better time hunting than fishing (in December, going on a goose hunt, deer hunt, rabbit hunt, etc. is a lot more interesting than crawling a jig along the bottom of a pond hoping for ONE bite). For the most part, hunting season is in the colder months and at that point the fishing is pretty rough anyways so I'm not too conflicted about choosing hunting. The only time that it becomes a toss up is in spring turkey season...which is going on right now! Quote
