Triton Man Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 As my family has grown I've had to cut back on my hobbies from when I was a single man. But fishing is definetly the main hobby. Hockey fills in the winter time once a week, skiing has fallen way off for me. I gave up summer hockey and a golf league to give me the most chance to fish and I go till the last lake freezes. Only ice fish a little bit. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted April 11, 2013 Super User Posted April 11, 2013 I'll admit it - my fishing went passed the hobby status quite a while ago. We're talking habit here with a decent amount of dependency involved as well. My "hobbies" are what I do when there is some reason I can't fish. However those reasons are few but they include things like - my arms fell off, a hurricane perhaps and then there's "The Honey Do List" Of Course Bass Resource has been a very good Hobby too. The Rooster Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 I used to be heavily into car audio. Even moderated a forum for it, but I finally gave it up. I don't think fishing displaced it, more like I just grew out of it. But towards the end I found myself having to decide between things like new reels or new speakers, and new reels usually won. Then there's my woodworking. Now, it seems to take top priority during cold weather, but once the weather gets warm enough to get out on the water, then I seem to lose interest in running routers and saws. That might even change further now that I'm beginning to get into lure making. Woodworking might be at a distant 3rd place by next winter. All other hobbies I used to do have been long forgotten for awhile now. Quote
fadetoblack21 Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 My hunting time is unaffected by my fishing time. I will be out in the woods come Monday morning for spring turkey. I'm lucky though, in Missouri you can only hunt until 1pm. So I will hit the lake for some evening fishing! I don't go to the range much anymore, though more due to being unable to find ammo. . . I have put photography on the back burner since I'm usually out fishing at the best times for landscape photography. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted April 11, 2013 Super User Posted April 11, 2013 Other than skateboarding and bull riding, I've given up all my other hobbies in favor of bass fishing. 4 Quote
mjseverson24 Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 I used to play tennis year round, then I joined the Navy and golfed almost every day. Now that I am out of the Navy and back in MN I fish 1200-1500 hours from april till november. I would say everything else has taken the back burner. Mitch Quote

Super User WRB Posted April 11, 2013 Super User Posted April 11, 2013 drag/street racing.Organized drag racing is a good sport, street racing kills innocent people.I am not someone trying to tell anyone how they should live their life, drag race your heart out, just not at someone else's expense. Grew up racing fuel cars and boats, love speed and knew where and when to go fast. Tom Quote
JellyMan Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 All my hobbies go on the back burner to others. I cycle between lol. I go hard at golf and fishing/surfing goes kind of back burner. I go hard at surfing and fishing/golf goes on back burner. I go hard at fishing, surfing/golf goes on back burner. I have such passion for my hobbies that I cannot possibly spend the money and or time on all of them at once. I just got out of my "golf phase" for awhile and am hitting fishing pretty hard. But I am starting to itch with golf again as well as I have not been surfing in 3 years due to a relocation. I have a feeling surfing is next then back to golf. Maybe a little both. Boy, I need to find balance lol. How the hell can you work full time, go to school, have a social life, be single, fish, surf and play golf?! I have to cycle the hobbies. I am a musician too but I dont really see that as a hobby, more of something I make time for like brushing my teeth or showering. I always find a little time to pick up the guitar during the day. bassinKS Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 depends on what, golf has taken the back seat but during the winter mainly duck season and deer season fishing takes a back seat i absolutely love to duck hunt and will not give it up until i cannot do it anymore. Im actually majoring in becoming a guide in college lol. From the time duck season is out until deer season starts it is all bass fishing and i might squeeze a couple days in the winter to go bass fishing but not many. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted April 11, 2013 Super User Posted April 11, 2013 Moved to Florida full time 10 years ago, at that time I played golf every day and did some bass fishing in the afternoons. After being here about a year I went to a jettie on the ocean one day and saw these guys catching these little jacks. Next day I go out there and catch a few, never thought a 1-2 lb fish could bend a rod in half, I was hooked, never played golf again. I am totally obsessed with saltwater fishing and fish the ocean about 340 days a year, can't think of too many Florida species I haven't caught. 2 Quote
prjavelin Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 I used to play a lot of video games, play pool, gym while fishing was dormant. Once I got the bass fishing bug it was game over. If im not fishing, im thinking about it. 1 Quote

tholmes Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Some yes, some never. I'll never give up making music. I'll fish and make music until I die. X2^ In fact, sometimes fishing has to take a back seat to my guitar. Tom Quote
CPBassFishing Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 I was big into flying RC planes last year and that's why I missed a season of fishing but now I'm back in it and my planes get flown maybe once a month. Quote
Snakehead Whisperer Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Been planning to pull the transaxle out of my VW and get it back on the road. I was going to do this when the weather got nice, but you know how that goes. One thing that I've noticed is that it's kind of hard to have a good day on the water if I don't handle my responsibilities first. It's like the bass won't bite if they know I had something more important to do that day. 1 Quote
wademaster1 Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Basically everything goes on the backburner, especially this time of year....actually I don't even think my backburner stays warm right now....... Quote

I am totally obsessed with saltwater fishing and fish the ocean about 340 days a year, can't think of too many Florida species I haven't caught. I can imagine. I don't know much about it but I've had two trips of inshore sea fishing in the last 3 years and I love it. We fished Baffin Bay,Texas in 2009 and Mobile bay and out past Dauphin Island last summer. I could fish for redfish every day. It's like a tank on the end of your rod. And hook one over 30 inches and you're going to be playing it for over 30 minutes on regular bass gear. We caught some sea trout on both trips but they were all fairly small on the first trip. Last year I landed one that was around 5 lbs and it pulled like a tank as well. The strength of a bass just doesn't compare to these fish. I'm sure the fish we were catching probably can't compare to others in the sea, but they were awesome on our gear. 1 Quote
bigfishtim Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 oh yeah, use to do alot of road course tracks around the U.S. Haven't done one in two years.. Quote
jhoffman Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Ive given up every hobby except hunting and fishing. Usually hunting when the fishing is poor sometimes they mix though. I can distinctly remember a morning where I was out hunting turkeys with no luck, went home and changed over to fishing and had a banner day. Quote

Scorcher214 Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Fishing isn't my hobby anymore it's now become my passion. I snowboard as well but here in Michigan...if you can snowboard you can't fish. The only problem I foresee this season is my weightlifting. I do 5 days a week for about 1-1.5 hours each day. I haven't missed a day yet and I don't plan on doing so. Even if the weather is perfect, I'll have to get my workout in first. Actually I do remember kind of missing a workout. Usually i get it in around noon but woke up late and had to go to work. Felt like garbage all day at work and when I got home worked out. I'm addicted to it almost like fishing now. Quote
