Since i can remember ive always had a skateboard, bmx bike, car or motorcycle in my hands but always made time for fishing here and there. Now, if i have any free time its right to the lake and im fishing. All my other hobbies have been put on the backburner for the past few years and its hard to do anything else when its the weekend or any other free time i can find.

Am i the only one or has fishing taken over all you're other hobbies as well ?

Ive had bike, car and motorcycle builds on hold for far too long....  :wink2:

I use to golf, but because of back problems and my re-energized interest in fishing, I have not golfed in a year.

Yep...no more racing or shooting. Just fishing. And I like it that way.

Everything goes to the backburner except for work.  I have found that as my load of responsibilities has grown with age,  I have less time for multiple hobbies and I have narrowed my hobbies down to the two I love the most -  fishing and guitar.  But, man, do I miss riding like a banshee through the woods and hills on a dirt bike.  It's better to miss that than fishing though.

One persons avocation is another's vocation; one persons hobbie is another's career.

There can be real harm to your vocation wasting time with avocations or hobbies, fishing included.

You're first responsibility is establishing a career, very few can make their avocation a vocation and bass fishing, and other hobbies, has caused a lot of heartbreak, lost careers!

Boys don't out grow their toys, just the time needed to play with them.

I was a golf fanatic until i discovered fishing.  At this point I picked up my Callaways 4 times last year and doubt I will get more reps with them this year ... LOL

To put it in perspective I used to practice golf 3-4 times a week and play twice a week before.

Drinking, women, and work all take a back seat to fishing.  :tongue8:

Absolutely. Hockey, baseball, karate, four wheeling, mobile audio, and shooting. I only have one hobby now, and I'm all in.

Some yes, some never.  I'll never give up making music.  I'll fish and make music until I die.

Most things mesh together pretty well.  We are avid gardeners (no, not the rods  lol) and that just gets worked in when there is a free minute or two.  I pretty much gave up hunting years ago, that can be the best fishing of the year.  The only thing that puts fishing on the back burner is the maple syrup season, you gotta be ready when the trees are.  There is no way around it.    Fortunately that season is generally at the tail end of the icefishing season (and keeps me off crappy late ice) and just before boating season starts.

My mountain biking and lacrosse have definitely fallen by the wayside. I really got into back into bass fishing in 2009. That year I got married and had my girl. Fast forward to today I'm the president of our club, built a new house and have another baby coming. It's not so much other hobbies falling off, just life moving forward and bringing what you can easily enjoy with you.

Sold the car that I built in 3yrs to buy a boat and a truck. So now it's gone I have more time to fish. I still throw darts a good bit and play in tournaments but they are only every couple of months. Practice is usually after work and not on my days off during fishing season. Typically at home but I'll go to the club to play online since it's more fun and challenging. That's about all I do.

My wife and I are gardeners, too!

I have given up golf and hunting.

I have almost always fished, but before I bought a boat it was just at farm ponds, local bank fishing spots, or the occasional renting of a small boats to go out on the lake. And I usually only fished when my other hobby didn't have me traveling all over the northeast to go to events. I was a pretty wrapped up in World War Two living history, and reenacting. Going to 8-10 events a year. I also had a large collection of WW2 US gear, equipment, weapons, uniforms. Parts of my collection were featured in several high profile (at least amongst us WW2 history buffs) reference books, and we were involved in the filming of several BBC documentaries on the US WW2 GI. We were the honor guard at the premier of the film " The great raid"  aboard the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier.  Once we had kids, and I decided I liked staying around home vs. being on the road every chance I got, I sold most of that stuff off. I sold stuff to the national D-Day museum in New Orleans, to authors of reference books, and of  coarse on e-bay. I made enough to dig out of debt from 10 years of traveling, buying stuff that I couldn't pass up when I didn't have the cash for it, and had enough money left over to buy a small boat, and I have fished almost exclusively ever since. I kept enough stuff to have a small modest collection, and in case I ever wanted to go to another event again. I did a few small, local events the first few years after I started fishing again, but my heart was not in it, and I have not been to one since 2008. The last few years of doing it, we saw fewer and fewer vets of WW2, due to them passing away (many whom I personally knew, or were related to), and way to many "Hollywood" historians who's research was watching Saving private Ryan 30 times, and being able to recite Band of Brothers line for line. The deep appreciation of the vets, and the  dedication to doing solid research and teaching the public about the war was just not present in the next generation of guys getting into the hobby. All they wanted to do was play army in WW2 uniforms, and shoot guns. They drove me away from the hobby as much as anything, and made my decision to step away kind of easy. Besides,  I came to enjoy  fishing so much more, it's a lot cheaper, it's (for the most part) local so I don't have to travel. I am competitive on the local tournament scene, and it's been in my blood since I was very young.

I rotate around but I try and do everything that I love. I work out every day just about, ride my bike 3-5 days a week and fish usually 2 evenings a week and one day on the weekend. I also manage to spend a lot of time with my fiancée and two year old son. I am just glad I don't need more than about 5-6 hours sleep a night.

I don't race my R/C nitro trucks any more or play paintball but that's just cause its to expensive.

My ring back tone is Brad Paisley - I'm gonna miss her you can guess how my girl friend likes that every day when she calls and I don't stay a whole weekend with her so I can get out on the water lol. My ex wife tried keeping me from fishing and it didn't fly lol.

Paintball used to be my obsession a few years ago, now it has been bumped from the top spot.

I've cut back on fall hunting. Chasing ducks, geese, pheasants, and bow hunting whitetails use to be my life. Nowadays, I still find time to do a bit of each, but my passion for bass fishing consumes most of my time.

The one thing I would like to give up is yard work.

Fishing and hunting have been my only real hobbies for the last 15-16 years of my life. When I was just a kid there was nothing I loved more than fishing or hunting.  The only reason I have had to deer hunt a little less in the fall as of late is because my bass tournaments run till the end of october.  Besides organized sports (football, baseball, bar league softball) its all I've ever done for enjoyment.

I bowl. Major leagues arr during Winter. So I have all summer to fish. ;)
