Hi Gang,

I'm fairly new to bass fishing.  Grew up putting worms on a hook and catching pan fish but never graduated to the next level.  Last year my parents moved to Lake of the Woods in Locust Grove, Virginia, giving me access to a boat and lake.  Got a crappy rod and reel as a 10 year anniversary gift with my company, bought a pack of senko worms, and the rest is history.  I'm hooked now and spend as much of my free time as I can on weekends fishing.

Unfortunately, nobody in my family, nor any of my friends, like to fish.  So I'm flying blind, trying to learn anything and everything I can on the internet.

Was wondering if there's anyone here on this board that fishes Lake of Woods at all.  Looking for tips on anything and everything.  Spots to fish, what lures you find work well, ietc...  Even looking for someone to fish with.

As far as I can tell, the lake is nearly devoid of vegatation at the moment and the only real cover are the docks.  I've got no electronics and the only information I have to work with is this depth map http://www.lowa.org/getmedia/77771a11-14b5-4777-a467-da969a4d09cc/Main_Lake-Contour.aspx.  So info from someone that actually knows the lake would be a huge help!

Anyways, happy to be here and looking forward to learning much and more.

Murray,

I fish down there several times a year, mainly May-August when my parents have their fish/ski boat in the water.  I don't have any electronics either other than the depth finder on the boat.  But from a map I found on the LOW website, there is a bunch of manmade Fish attractors that have been placed in various areas of the lake.  Find the map and that should give you a good start.   I've never really caught fish there consistantly, and what AI have caught hasnt topped 2 lbs.   but there are some bigger bass in there.  Docks are good early/late and deeper water drop offs are good during the summer.

Bass should be close to spawning with the current heat wave...  look for the smaller males making beds....the larger females should be a little deepr till they are ready to spawn.

I myself was hoping to link up with someone down there who fished regualarly and maybe a member of the fishing club.   Would love to learn tips, as I myself am just getting back into bass fishing.  Hop others will chime in and share their knowledge.

Ah, right, I forgot about that fish habitat map. Here it is http://www.lowa.org/getmedia/5f67b672-e6d4-4570-af55-5cbab232c18b/fish_structure_2007.aspx It's pretty old, so I'm not sure how reliable it is. I imagine most of the organic stuff has disappeared. I'll be out on the lake today and will make a point of targeting some of these.

Yea i wish my dad would put the boat ini all ready.  he's not a fisherman so he usally waits till mid may when it warms up to put the boat in.

Good Luck today! Let me know how it goes.I probably won't make it down till early may to fish down there.
