KY Outdoorsman Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Which is the better bait? I caught my #2 pb on a scum from last summer. However, i notice many anglers on youtube and such like the spro frog. I havent used the spro frog. Whats the difference? Thanks for the help!! Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted April 10, 2013 Super User Posted April 10, 2013 I catch an equal amount on the scum frog popper and the spro frogs. The scum frogs have a better strike to hookup ratio because they completely collapse. The spro frogs have better colors and walk the dog better. It just really depends on what the bass want. The spro casts better being heavier, but the action of the popper is what the fish want at times. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 10, 2013 Global Moderator Posted April 10, 2013 I'll take the Spro every time in that head to head match up. I'm not a big frog fisherman but the popping Spro is slowly changing that. Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Not one of your options, but I pick a Live Target Hollow Frog over a SPRO. Each person likes different things. I had a SPRO Bronze Eye once, and never got a blowup on it. Seemed like it always walked to one side (maybe just me). But Koppers Frog, I have many fish on, Love the 65T size. Personally, just had more success and have more confidence in a Koppers than SPRO. But I'm sure there are fisherman out there that has more confidence in SPRO than Live Target. Confidence is EVERYTHING. To help build it, use the Scum and when you have a real good frog bite on, switch to the SPRO in the same color scheme. 2 Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 10, 2013 Super User Posted April 10, 2013 Spro over Scumfrog for me. Quote
Hanover_Yakker Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Overall, its SPRO for me. For hook ups, the Scum Frog shines, but where the SPRO makes it mark is not only in the ability to work and cast the frog better, but the durability of the SPRO outshines the Scum Frog hands down in my opinion. I have several SPROS (as well as a couple Koppers and Evovles), but the one Scum Frog I own I do not even use. It was a gift from my son, and I don't want to have it destroyed by some of the aggressive pickerel in our ponds that we fish and have him get upset. Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Make a ceiling fan pull out of it. HAHAHA Ive done that to a couple of my fav hardbaits. 2 Quote
BassThumb Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 The Spro is the better of the two by far. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted April 10, 2013 Super User Posted April 10, 2013 I have both and I usually grab the scum frog because nothing frustrates me more then seeing them blow up on my frog and not hooking it iv got 11 spros and 6 scum frogs iv never caught anything on the spros and the skirts rotted off most of em. Scum frog may get torn up easy but for the price of one spro I can buy 3 scum frogs. 2 Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted April 10, 2013 Super User Posted April 10, 2013 I frog fish a lot. Scum frogs are considerably lighter than a SPRO or comparable. So either you'll need to add weight or throw on spinning gear for a Scumfrog to achieve the same casting distance. That being said, I caught my PB on a white and green spotted Scumfrog in 2007. They'll catch fish. Since then, I have use Live Target frogs/mice, BPS Kermy, and SK KVD sexy frogs, which I like over SPRO brand. I'll have a Live Target on 95% of the time as I feel that is the best on the market. Purely my opinion. I have probably 30+ hollow frogs in my frog box. Quote
JoePhish Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 My frog of choice is the Scum Frog Trophy Series. It's weighted so it's different that way than the regular Scum Frog 3/16. For me this is important because I have trouble throwing light frogs on gear suited for froggy conditions. I also like the way the back end sits below the water dangling its legs. I almost never miss a hook up on them though I do go through a few of them per year. Spros are more durable (and nicer to look at) but I seem to miss more fish with them. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 10, 2013 Super User Posted April 10, 2013 Guys who miss fish with frogs............it's the guy pulling the triggers fault, not the frogs. Anyone who has unwanted Spro frogs laying around because "they can't hook up with them" send them to me. I'll wear them out. 3 Quote

I'd probably give them away to an underprivileged kid or pretty much any other random fisherman first. However, PM me if you want to trade something for them (1 Popper/Rainforest Blaclk and 1 65/Navy Seal). Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted April 10, 2013 Super User Posted April 10, 2013 I like the spro popping frog the best. You can walk the frog, pop the frog, fish it any way you want. My best spro frog fish. 5 Quote

KY Outdoorsman Posted April 10, 2013 Author Posted April 10, 2013 Thanks for the help guys I think I'm going to pick up a spro frog on my next trip to bps. Is there a size I should get or a specific color? Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted April 10, 2013 Super User Posted April 10, 2013 I like black or white based on light/sky conditions. I think they only come in two sizes the regular & baby. I like the bigger size. Quote
mjseverson24 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 one frog probabily wont do you a whole lot of good. I would get 4 frogs. get two of the largest frogs in a dark color, and in a lighter color or white. then get two of the popping frogs one in dark and one in light or white. frog fishing can be the most fun you will have fishing all year dont sell yourself short by only having one. I recamend the largest sizes because typicaly when you frog fish you are targeting big fish not the small to medium size ones. Mitch Quote

And I've sure caught a lot of fish on that one frog. I think one will do you just fine for starters. Don't go spending 35$ on 4 SPRO frogs until you use one, and decide whether or not you like it. mnbassman23 Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 I've caught a lot of fish on Scum Frogs. I still use them today, along with a few others that you didn't list. Quote

Super User MarkH024 Posted April 11, 2013 Super User Posted April 11, 2013 My PB. You can see the Scum Frog in the mouth still. At the time I was using 8# fireline black on spinning gear. Quote
