motodmast Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Anyone out there with an endurance? How is it, what is it most comparable to, would you get another, just the basic stuff i wanna know before i go and buy one. Ive heard there excellent rods, just wanna hear what you guys have to say first.. Im mostly looking at the casting rods 714 & 723 but any review of a endurance rod will work. Thanks Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted April 10, 2013 Super User Posted April 10, 2013 I have a review of Powell's Max and Endurance rods on here. Search for it and you can see that i think very highly of them, especially for the price. Quote
BronzeChaser Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I bought an endurance 723 a couple weeks ago and I'm very pleased with it so far. It's pretty light and balances just extremely well with a curado 200e7, it's very sensitive, and it looks great to boot. I've been throwing mostly 1/4 oz jigs on it and have been able to detect light bites in 15 feet of water no problem. As the water warms I plan on using it for swim jigs. Great rod in my opinion and very versatile. Quote
je1946 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I own 4 Powell Maxx 2 spinning and 2 casting, with the 704 being my favorite, they've been fished hard and I've had zero issues. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted April 10, 2013 Super User Posted April 10, 2013 I've been using Powell rods since they came out with the Max line in 2006 (or somewhere in that time frame) and I currently have 6 of them. I think they are one of the better rods in their price range. 1 Quote
Megastink Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Endurance Rods are absolutely outstanding. Lightweight, very strong, perfect action. For $170, there is nothing better, and no reason to spend any more money, IMHO. 1 Quote
MediumHeavy Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I have 4 Powell Max casting rods: 703, 704, 734, 706CB and they're all fantastic. The Endurance series is even better, mostly, so if you're interested I don't think you should hesitate. If you have questions about their rods, you can always email them and they've been really good at answering questions personally and making suggestions. Quote
BrettD Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 I have half a dozen powell endurance rods and for the price they are really hard to beat. There crankbait rods are some of the best I ever used. 1 Quote
Diggy Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 They are still on sale for 109 on the fish ranger Quote
shootermcbob Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 I have a 6'9" heavy endurance..not sure the model #...got it for 99.00 bucks at ***....fantastic rod. Quote

Super User Teal Posted April 13, 2013 Super User Posted April 13, 2013 I have 9 Powells. 8 endurance and 1 max left. And yes the endurance is worth the extra 30 bucks over the Max. Endurance 714-My jig rod (2) Endurance 723- one is a worm/fluke/senko/ soft plastic rod, i use the other for spinner or chatterbaits, swim jigs, buzz baits, hollow body swimmers,...(my most versitile rods) Endurance 804, Flippin punching, jigs and plastics Endurance 695cb Shallow cranks and lipless cranks (2)Endurance 712 spinning rods, drop shot, and other is all things light Endurance 725 - frogs and big topwaters Max 765- flipping punching Ive had a few other Max rods and have sold them to fund other reels and endurance rods. Both are great rods. The two rods that you are looking at at probably my two favorites. Quote
Super User Teal Posted April 13, 2013 Super User Posted April 13, 2013 I know that wasnt a review...but notice, most guys that responded have more than one Endurance...that speaks volumes. I wish i was able to afford a NRX or a Legend Extreme, but i cant, so i buy these... the best value in fishing. I really think there are comparable rods out there but they cost 75-100 bucks more.. beware tho once you buy one, you will buy more. Quote
motodmast Posted April 13, 2013 Author Posted April 13, 2013 thanks for all the reviews/ suggestions guys! i think im gonna go with the 723 Quote
Grantman83 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Had a max 682c and it was a great jerkbait and topwater rod..only sold it cause I had a change to get a dobyns champion. For the money it is a great rod. Lets not forget that Gary dobyns designed the max line before he started his own company. They are quality for sure Quote
Fattygreens Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Little high jack here but figured I would ask how they compare to the ***. Quote
Super User Teal Posted April 14, 2013 Super User Posted April 14, 2013 I have not fished a *** rod and i do not doubt that they are great and well built rods. But why in the world do people on this site and other forums talk about this 99.99 (entry level) rod as if it is the end all and be all to fishing rods? This to the point that people are touting this rod in the same class as rods like Dobyn Savy, Powell, and ect. ..i would need to fish one and see but i think that is non sense. *** does have another rod line that appears to be extremely nice... havent heard much talk on about them... Dude, buy the powell. If you dont like it, PM me and ill buy it from you. I dont need any more rods, but i have a feeling that i wont have to buy it from you. Quote
Hans Mussig Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Hi everyone, I'm new here in this forum and this is my very first post around here. I love Powell Rods and have used some casting models for a while. I like to load my 714 with jigs, heavy t-rigs and light flippin around cover and my 723 is one of my go-to rods for t-rigs, spinnerbaits, light jigs and swimbaits. If you buy these 2 rods I think you will cover most common applications. Now I'm looking forward to buying my first spinning rod from Powell buy I'm a little confused between buying the 712 Powell Endurance ML, the 703 MEF or the 733 MEF Powell Max. I will be throwing light texas, split shots, wacky and some weightless. Any suggestions? Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted May 31, 2013 Super User Posted May 31, 2013 703 or 733 will be perfect for that, the 712 I'm afraid will be just a touch too light. I personally use a 6'8" m/Xf fast but I prefer a shorter rod for most techniques. Quote
jtesch Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 I have the 725cb Nice rod, got it for 109 at TW, casts great just a little dead as far as sensitivity, even for a crankbait rod Quote
BrettD Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 I have never fished a *** but have played with one at a tackle shop the only thing I didnt car for was the handle diameter was really small similiar to the duckets. I like a larger handle diameter like the powells have. Quote
motodmast Posted July 19, 2013 Author Posted July 19, 2013 Bringing back an old thread, does anyone have a endurance 712 or 6101 spinning rod? Thinking about one for shakey head, wacky rig, little single tail grubs, its between the 6101 or 712, does anyone know if the 6101 have a decent amount of backbone or not? Thanks. Quote
motodmast Posted July 19, 2013 Author Posted July 19, 2013 Also, is the max 703cb rod a good overall rod for squarebills and some mid divers? Quote
