who makes the best 1/8 or 1/4oz swim jig? i am looking to try these at night in the same places i would swim a grub with an 1/8oz head. What type of trailers do guys find most effective on swim jigs?

thanks in advance

There are lots of companies that make great swim jigs. I prefer North Star Original swim jigs.  I use single tail grubs in 4 or 5 inch size.  I also use the Little Dipper by Reaction Innovations as well.  You can also use twin tail grubs and other types of trailers.  There is not wrong trailer for a swim jig.

Another vote for Northstar. As far as trailers, Poorboys Kickin' Darter and Big Bite Baits Cane Thumper

That small if a jig, I would say use a grub of some kind. I use Berkely Havoc Subwoofers. Not sure how it would look on a smaller swim jig. I only use 1/2 oz so I wouldn't know.

I recommend North Stars jigs myself. Fantastic quality and the swims come in some amazing colors. I would say that with the amount of respect on this board has for Seiberts jigs, give them a shot too. Never used one, but the overall consenses of the board is positive on them.

x3 for Northstar, hand tied, great hooks, some if the best quality skirts I've seen. Top notch quality.

As for trailers I'm a fan of rage grubs, grass pigs, swammers, little dippers.

I would fish a 1/4 oz Scrounger with a smaller size Fluke for a trailer at night, unless you are fishing in heavy weeds. The Scrounger collar pushes a lot of water creating sound waves for the bass to target. Another option is a Chatter jig for the same reasons.

NorthStar for me too! Best of the Best!

NorthStar Original Swim Jig for me as well. Their jigs are top notch in quality.  I throw a lot of 1/4 oz and have had luck on 4-5" single tail grubs, twin tail grubs, berkley havoc subwoofer and grass pig. Every trailer mentioned in this post will work great.

You NStar fans...what's the weed guard like on those jigs? Super stiff, medium, soft?  I need a new batch of swim jigs and since these are highly recommended I think I'd like to try them out this season.

The weedguards are long and stiff, so you have every option to custom trim

them to your liking. It's just my preference, but I cut them off. I don't feel a need

for a weedguard on swim jigs and think they look "cooler" withouth them!

Not as stiff as a regular flippin jig, but they are still fairly stiff. I would say medium stiff. For me, if i'm throwing them in open water with 10-12 lb copoly or fluoro I will trim them a bit. If i'm throwing them around moderate cover I usually have braid on and will leave them  "as is".

Brovarney's swim jigs are my favorite in 1.8-5/16 oz swim jigs. Majority of the time I'm using a yamamoto 5in grub or kalins grub.

I like NorthStar a lot, but Dirty Jigs also makes good swim jigs with a larger color selection than NorthStar. However the Dirty Jigs are not hand tied like the NorthStars are. My favorite trailers are the Berkley Havoc Grass Pigs and the Lake Fork Boot Tail Live Magic Shads in colors that match the jigs.
