jhoffman Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Stumbled on this one while doing SI research Theres a bunch more videos, this is number 1, number 2 is something about a drop shot, number 3 is SI with a camera under water... Quote

jhoffman Posted April 9, 2013 Author Posted April 9, 2013 I dont have cable, I have tv over internet, im out of the loop on whats actually aired anymore Quote
Super User Shane J Posted April 9, 2013 Super User Posted April 9, 2013 Great show! Kim and Danny Stricker are a couple of really nice guys. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted April 9, 2013 Super User Posted April 9, 2013 Yup! Always enjoyed it when it aired on Versus. Don't believe it is carried anymore since Versus changed hands to NBC Sports. <rant>Should run it over Charlie Moore's show. In fact, there are probably 10 other fishing shows that'd be more informative and enjoyable than that show.</rant> 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 9, 2013 Super User Posted April 9, 2013 Wish I had a diver telling me when to set the hook, lol. 2 Quote
moguy1973 Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Pretty cool stuff. I watched the one with how the line affected the fall rate of a senko. It really shows how much even 10lb braid shows up in the water and how much light it picks up and reflects. Definitely not for clear water fishing. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted April 9, 2013 Super User Posted April 9, 2013 Fun show to watch when they are showing lures and their action under the water. Besides that it's hit or miss for me in terms of liking it. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted April 9, 2013 Super User Posted April 9, 2013 Big O fishes with those guys (with one of them diving and filming) to try out new prototypes in the research and develope stage, to see things like fall rate, and the action of the baits actually in the water. This allows him to tweak the baits just right, in order to put out the best baits he can. Quote
jhoffman Posted April 9, 2013 Author Posted April 9, 2013 Anyone ever try this yourself, maybe not full blown dive gear but a snorkel? Be neat to look at a submerged tree. Quote

It's more like 10 mins of fishing and 20 mins of BS. If NBC Sports ever wises up and dumps him maybe he can take his "fishing show" over to the Food Network or Travel Channel. Quote
Traveler2586 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Hook n' Look DVD's have been on my birthday list starting when season one came out. There's more information in these DVD's than first meets the eye. Quote
Scorcher214 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 dont have the outdoor channel, just nbcsp, so no hook n look. one of my favorites though. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 10, 2013 Super User Posted April 10, 2013 I like it, especially the underwater footage. The fishing aspect of it..........meh....it's just ok, but they are slowly, and not so subtly turning into a Strike King/Seaguar/Power Pole/ Humminbird/Evinrude/Boat US angler, infomercial. The few episodes I have caught recently had enough product name drops in them to make R. Martin shudder. I understand you can't have a show with out sponsors, but, IMHO, Zona is king of plugging the sponsors with out beating you over the head with them, and that's one of the reason I like his show about as much as any. I've kind of felt that way about Hook n' Look from the beginning. I've still watched many of the shows and the underwater sections can be quite interesting. I know the hosts of fishing shows have to come across as personable but sometimes I think they try so hard it seems less than authentic. Of course, it is easy to criticize when I'm not the one in those shoes. Quote
Quillback Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Sometimes it's good, sometimes not so good, seems that lately there's been a lot of smallmouth stuff in clear lakes up north, which is great for you northeners, but for me, I want stuff about largemouth. Lots of product plugs as some guys have mentioned have crept into the show giving it that infomercial feel. I understand the reasons, but I tend to not watch or record infomercials. And so many of these shows are sponsored by Strike King, they're all turning into Strike King infomercials, sheesh.. Quote

Trust me, I'm from the north, and since the water is clear, we're not really seeing anything new, just from a different perspective..Not much new, though I am sure it's easy to film. Smallies on beds is boring. I'd like to see them dive with smallies in 40' of water in October, when they congregate in the wintering holes. 1 Quote
Traveler2586 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 My wife will come into the TV room just to see what all the laughing is about; it's a fun show and IMHO I'll look past the adds and just focus on the main content, after all the show has to earn its money or we'll loose it. Quote
Quillback Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Yep some deep water winter stuff would be neat, and I'd like to see them film the schooled up spotted bass that are 20-30 feet deep in Table Rock in the summer. Quote

I don't know. A good show should be able to sell ad time during the breaks without resorting to constant product placement and mentions within the show's main content. I can take a plug here and there, but sometimes it's a little too much. Lunkerville mostly avoids this pitfall, as does Spanish Fly and Hunt for big fish. Hook and Look is interesting, sometimes. I liked the episode where they were diving in the slop. 1 Quote
Hanover_Yakker Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 The videos are cool, I especially liked the line fall rate comparison and the side imaging episodes. I could see how underwater views can help validate lure behavior and fish orientation to structure and cover. Pretty cool idea but there is a point of diminishing returns regarding content where you'll end up sharing the same info over and over. Quote

I liked the episode where they were diving in the slop. I have to agree with you here, it is getting to be a bit much when they name the mfg each time when talking about a bait; they don't need to say "[mfg name] Rage Craw" every time they talk about the bait; or say "[mfg name]'s John doe" each time they talk about a guest; nothing wrong with just saying "the craw" or "john". IMHO, the end result is the loss of the viewer, and both the show's & host's reputation. All in the name of the most sponsor hits per show, i.e. each time the sponsor is pushed forward to the viewer. Hits = $ Quote
basscatcher8 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 You can watch alot of their 2012 episodes on myoutdoortv.com. Its a subscription site now but its worth it. Quote
