Super User eyedabassman Posted April 9, 2013 Super User Posted April 9, 2013 I have fished the tube both ways and I catch more fish if I have the weight on the outside of the tube ( T-Rig,weighted hook .Is this just me? What is the way you have more faith in? Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 It depends on the application. For skipping, an internal weight and the hook is texposed. For flipping around cover, the hook is texposed and the weight is exterior and pegged. For dragging around rock and smallmouth, a jig head inserted with the hook exposed. Tubes can do alot and rig options help you fish them in different scenarios but maximize hook ups while reducing hang ups. Hope this helps. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted April 9, 2013 Super User Posted April 9, 2013 I prefer the weight inside and the hook exposed but flippin mentioned above a lot depends on the circumstances. Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted April 9, 2013 Author Super User Posted April 9, 2013 I do alot better on tthe T-Rig.I fish alot of deep water in the summer.I fish with the weight inside and I don't do as well in deep water. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted April 9, 2013 Super User Posted April 9, 2013 I usually always fish mine t-rigged. Quote
MrSwimJig Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 I fish mine mainly with the weight on the inside and I use the Owner Phantom Tube Hook in the appropriate weight. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted April 9, 2013 Super User Posted April 9, 2013 I use the internal tube weights an a Gammy skip gap hook around cover. I don't think there is any difference in the drop of the bait as having a weight pegged outside the tube. If not cover I use a weighted hook like the SK's or the like. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 10, 2013 Super User Posted April 10, 2013 I t-rig them with a pegged sinker outside the tube when fishing them in heavy cover, and with an old fashioned tube jig head slid inside the tube for everything else. Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Craw imitation or deeper water hook outside. Shallower water and more of a swimming baitfish imitation internal weight. Quote
Super User WRB Posted April 10, 2013 Super User Posted April 10, 2013 You are missing a lot bass without drop shotting tubes. The internal tube,Bobby Garland design, jig with hook exposed (Canyon -Plastics) lets the tube fall with spiral action that works good. The large size Tora Tube with over size internal jig, forgotten today, still works great. Tom Quote

There may not be an difference in fall rate, but I guarantee there is a difference in the way they fall and that can make all the difference when it comes to getting bit, or getting hung up. Internal jigs or weights will give the tube a spiraling fall which adds to the attraction of the bait. There are conditions that are not optimal for this such as when fishing weeds or brush as the tube can wrap around the cover. Those are times when a T-rigged tube will get the nod from me. BTW, don' forget C-rigging as an 'external weight' option. Add a piece of Styrofoam inside the tube and you can float it above emergent vegetation for a killer presentation. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted April 10, 2013 Super User Posted April 10, 2013 I've never noticed the spiral before? I will look next time. I will have to use the styrofoam trick. Thanks Quote
