Nick94 Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Any thoughts on Mepps inline spinners? Trash, or treasure? Quote
GoVikes Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 I hope they are good. My wife got me 5 for $2 at a garage sale today. Quote
CRFisher Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Great spinners. I think they are much better than rooster tails. Quote
Vboards1 Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 They are decent but rooster tails are cheaper and better. Can't beat that **** Quote
Nick94 Posted May 7, 2010 Author Posted May 7, 2010 They are decent but rooster tails are cheaper and better. Can't beat that **** Really? i always thought that Mepps were sturdier and longer lasting than rooster tails. Yeah, a larger assortment of colors, but Mepps i think have better quality Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted May 7, 2010 Super User Posted May 7, 2010 Good stuff you have there Nick, tried and true. Them things will just about catch anything. What sizes do you have? Quote
Nick94 Posted May 7, 2010 Author Posted May 7, 2010 Good stuff you have there Nick, tried and true. Them things will just about catch anything. What sizes do you have? Currently, I only have a couple 2# and 3#, mostly Aglia Long. what about you? anything outstanding? i prefer the larger sizes ;D Quote
CRFisher Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 I feel they spin much better than rooster tails and come in much bigger sizes. #3's to #5's for bass. #5 in Rainbow trout does well for me in trout stocked ponds. Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted May 7, 2010 Super User Posted May 7, 2010 I use the #3 often. If I am not getting any action with anything else I can just about guarantee trouble with that thing. 8-) Quote
Dogface Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 They are decent but rooster tails are cheaper and better. Can't beat that **** Really? i always thought that Mepps were sturdier and longer lasting than rooster tails. You thought right! Mepps are a much better quality. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted May 7, 2010 Super User Posted May 7, 2010 Mepps spinners sure will catch bass, both largemouth and smallmouth. Panther martins are better spinners but Mepps are sturdier. Great in heavily fished lakes, in rivers for smallies, and when fish are pretty finicky. Quote
Super User Tin Posted May 7, 2010 Super User Posted May 7, 2010 Mepps are possibly one of the best baits in water around or under 50 degrees. I like them #3 or 4 with a silver blade and white or a big Comet Minno. Quote
D4u2s0t Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 I like a #5 mepps, great multispecies bait. Perfect for muskie, bass, and bigger walleye. It will avoid many of the smaller fish, but not to the point where you're not going to catch anything. Quote
Pikesnogle Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 I swear by Mepps (as well as Panther Martin) there are no better spinners in my opinion. Never have any problems with them not spinning properly. #4 Mepps kill the bass on a sunny day. -Snogle Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted May 7, 2010 Super User Posted May 7, 2010 Small in-lines are one of the most underrated pre-spawn through post-spawn bass lures. Quote
Bass Tracker 20 Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 I agree with Paul, very underrated lure, they catch fish and not alot of people use them. In-line spinners are also a very versitile lure, I have caught tons of fish with them in creeks and lakes. Quote
Nick94 Posted May 7, 2010 Author Posted May 7, 2010 dont you hate to that with rooster tails, after the 5th or 6th cast, you kinda have to jerk it a little to get the blade spinning? it gets annoying for me Quote
Smiths.R Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 I LOVE Mepps spinners. 3's and 4's are my favorite, and the Aglia Long #4 slays big bass. I would agree with a previous post; pre and post spawn, Mepps slays the bass. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted May 7, 2010 Super User Posted May 7, 2010 Inline spinners are a good bait. A top quality ball bearing (not a barrel swivel!) swivel goes a long way toward helping line twist. Too many people look down on them as amateur or beginner lures. One way to fish them is to rip them to break the surface of the water, then let them flutter down. It seems to be the only bait that (for me) occasionally gets crushed the second it hits the water. JigMe Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 number 2, 3 in aglia helped me caught some bass this year. P.S. walmart has them on sale for 1.99 if anyone is looking to buy some. Quote
BassThumb Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 They're a good lure. I've had my best luck with them for river smallies and trout. Quote
