last year my loomis gl2 7ft mh had the good quan, my croix premier also had good quan.

my other gl2 and my croix mojo didnt fair to well lol

I saw it on sale for 79.99 and yet I still couldn't pull the trigger on one.  I hear the Smoke is good...I guess I can't get over the "Quantum" part.  It took me sometime to even take my hand me down Quantum Energy PT.  Still don't use it much, even though it's a smooth reel and I just cleaned it and it seems to be even smoother than I last remember.

 

As for the best rod for the money.  I think it depends on a lot of things..especially if you're asking about the uses of the rod.  Since you didn't state for what technique, I will just assume you mean a good all purpose rod.  If that is all you could have.  This is all based on personal experience.

 

Sub 100 - Compre, Veritas MH/F 7'+

100-200 - Crucial, Avid..MH/F 7'+  I just bought an Fenwick Aetos and I really like how it feels and very comfortable.  You should check that out.  If it works out, I may have found my rods that I would use to compliment my GLX and Cumara.

200+ - Cumara 6'9" MH/XF

 

As for higher than that, I wouldn't know personally.  I did just buy a GLX, but I wouldn't call it an all purpose rod yet..(853c) I am probably going to use it as my main jig and worm rod.  If I had to pick an all around rod, I would probably say St. Croix MH/F in Legend Tournament and above...line post..as the Cumara is geared more bottom contact.

Answering such a question would require a person to try every rod made.  Otherwise how would you know which was the best for the money?  Of the few models I have tried, I like the Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth.  I paid about $71 for each of mine, and consider that a steal.  These are very good rods for the money even at full price, IMO.

 

However, I picked up a few more rods over the winter.  The Quantum SuperLite 6' 10" Heavy at $87 ($69 rod, $18 shipping) will have to be considered for that title as well if it performs anywhere near as well a a friend said it would.  Still available at that price last time I checked.

I try to avoid responding to any thread that is titled "best". You will get opinions based on personal bias and my bais is no different. My experience fishing deep rocky structured lakes with jig for big bass is over 50 years.

During that time period I have fished with a lot of rods including G.L. Loomis, Lamiglas, Fenwhick etc. all excellent rods. The past few years my rods are custom made by ALX rods and now Alex offers off the shelf Zolo-B series within your price range. OBC-4-85F is ideal for your foot ball jigs between 1/4 to 1 oz.

Take a look online at ALX "Dream rod" review, this is a 3 power rod, the ALX site defines power verses medium heavy.

I personally fish custom GL2 rods.  I think it all comes down to how much money you are willing to spend and what purpose you are using them for.

St Croix Avids are tough to beat for the money. Made in the USA, hand wrapped guides, and a life time warranty doesn't hurt things either.

Custom, and local if you've got a local custom builder. Keep your money in your community when you can. For that reason (and because they're really nicely wrapped rods for a reasonable price) I'm partail to G-Blanks Custom Rods. If you don't have a local custom builder, check them out!

No one here will be able to answer your question. Each member has their own likes, budget, access to product or custom product and experience. I'm not picking on you and we are glad you are on board. The term BEST comes up alot and it just ends up with everyone lobbying for what they like and already own. Find some parameters and ask for suggestions within those parameters and then research the suggestions. Do everything you can to put a rod or reel in your hand. I don't know what the best rod is. I only know what I like.

For the money, I think St. Croix Avids

Granted I'm new to bass fishing period, but I really like the All Star classic series every rod no matter the action is one piece sensitive graphite with exposed blank under the reel and fugi guides and they are all $49.99 each no matter the size or action. I have two so far and with reels they're pretty balanced just in front of the reels about a half to one inch. I don't know how long they'll last though like I said I'm just getting started.

For the money I have used my St Croix Rods since 1997 and have never had a problem and they are used

for 7-8 months a year here in NE...They cost around 150 to 250 but they stand the test of time

I've tried a lot of rods in the past few years. 

 

I've come to the conclusion that many times you DO get what you pay for.  So therefore, in my opinion:

 

Shimano CUMULUS, in both casting and spinning:   I can see why they discontinued these......too darn good for the price!

 

Strangely, MEGABASS:   I only have 2.....the Orochi Destroyer X4 Rattle Viper, and the Aaron Marten's Limited Drop Shot.   What exquisite pieces!

 

Lastly, the Dobyns Champion Extreme:   A beautiful rod that performs as well as it looks.

 

And yes, those are expensive rods.    And I can definitely NOW see why!!  One has to actually fish with them in order to fully understand.

St croix in general are my favorite the LTB is awesome but for a hundred bucks the mojo bass is probably most bang for buck
