I checked out the link and they look good and are reasonable on the price. Did anyone in your meeting have any thoughts on the rod? The Hot Rod (rod) caught my attention.

I have 2 of their Maestro series and 1 of the Overture. I find the Oveture M's to be equivelant to most companies MH. The Maestro's are right on. My Maestro's came with the recoil guides, I like them, some do not. All the rods are very nice and comfortable to fish with. I don't have anymore because I have not needed any more rods.

One of my friends who is a very accomplished fisherman just switched from G-Loomis and Dobyns to all of their Hot Rod series. Most of the guys I know that are trying their rods have leaned toward that series now due to the price point and the quality it offers.

So ... I bit the bullet and bought 2 of their Hot Rod spinning rods.  The Drop Em and the Tube Barrell.  I picked them because I was looking for better quality rods for my finesse fishing.  But because I am a co-angler I also needed something which was versatile for other things.

I took them both out this weekend and they performed great.  Here's the specifics for each day.

Day one - Drop Em rod.  I started with fishing the lure that the rod was intended for. The drop shot.  The weather is still cold up here so I didn't expect many bites.  Cold and windy but I was still able to launch my 1/4oz drop shot weight pretty far.  I had great bottom contact.  Much better than the old rod I used.  I could feel everything on the bottom.  Score one for sensitivity!

I also tried many other things with it just to mess around.  Swim Jig, Jig, Swimbait, weightless Senko and it all worked well.

Score one for versatility.

I did catch ONE fish on the drop shot.  It was about 3lbs.  My partners each caught one too but mine outweighed them both combined.  Hehe

Score one for confidence and bragging rights.  :-)

Day 2 - Tube Barrell - The weather was warmer but extremely windy.  Gusts well over 10mph.  It felt colder than the day before.  Again I started off with using the rod for what it was intended for.  The Tube.  I used a Finesse Tube with 1/8oz internal weight.  Again the sensitivity was there and it felt better than my Drop Em rod.  I caught one bass on my 5th cast.  I only got about 2-3 hours of fishing because the winds were getting worse.  I ended up with two more bass.  I was with 4 others on that lake and none of them caught anything.

I'm sure the fish knew I just bought them and wanted to give me a good show.   :laugh5:

Seriously -  They made a great 1st impression.  I will be buying more in the near future.
