kylek Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 I am looking to replace the hooks on my crankbaits but honestly have no idea what size they are. Is there a size I could purchase that would work for most crankbaits? What size would you recommend and any brands that are better than others? Thanks for any info you can give. Kyle Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 5, 2013 Super User Posted April 5, 2013 If you are just replacing a couple, take the lure to a retailer and they can help. If you plan to replace several and they are different sizes, get a variety pack. I bought a multiple size VMC package for less than $10. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted April 5, 2013 Super User Posted April 5, 2013 Here you go...On page 5, I believe, you can match your hook to the sizes shown. http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/Content/downloads/sizing_chart.pdf Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted April 5, 2013 Super User Posted April 5, 2013 This is my pick - Mustad TG76BLN "Ultra-Point" KVD Elite Treble Hook The Mustad TG76BLN "Ultra-Point" Kevin Van Dam Elite Treble Hook features an opti-angle needle points which are chemically sharpened for superior penetration. These 2x short 1x strong treble hooks are great replacements for standard hooks found on crankbaits jerkbaits and virtually any lure with trebles. Kevin Van Dam and Mustad developed these hooks for the toughest fishing conditions. The advanced hook design ensures a 100% full power hookset with the TG76BLN. As for the sizes, each bait requires a certain size, though some personal preference does come into play. You can usually find hook sizes on the lure manufactures web page. A-Jay 1 Quote
Super User Marty Posted April 6, 2013 Super User Posted April 6, 2013 If you can't find the actual size an eyeball check should get you close enough. Sizes #4 and #6 take care of 95% of my needs. I use the round bend style but others prefer different styles. Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted April 6, 2013 Super User Posted April 6, 2013 What I do when I need to change hooks is I find my lure on the BPS website. It usually lists the hook size. Or you could just buy a variety pack and eye it out. Also, like Marty said, seems like most of the hooks I needed were either 4 or 6. Quote
