Fishing N Boots Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 5am Sunday, 04/07/2013, I will be loading up my new boat with all my fishing gear and heading to Lake Konawa, Oklahoma. Currently the fishing reports are saying that the LMB are Excellent and all other bass are good. So we shall put this report to the test. I should be on the water by 7:30am, I will try and give a detailed report of my outing. Although, I am a terrible writer. 2 Quote

We finished 2nd in our tourney there & won big bass with a 6lb-4oz bass & we had another that weighed 4.5 lbs. Caught on plastics. Quote

Launch from the city boat ramp & go to the first cove south of the ramp & fish that cove. We caught our big ones on the south side of the cove. You can also the north side of the power plant & fish the discharge channel & the points at the edge of the channel. The coves just north of the east boat ramp are good as well. Where you see grass, there is fish. Hope you got a map of the lake so you can see what I'm talking about. If not, google Oklahoma water resources board. On their website they have a lake atlas. It has pretty much every lake on the state. Some are topo maps & you can view it online. good luck Quote
stew6371 Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Oh yeah, last year we caught a bunch of sand bass in the discharge channel. That's some fun. Quote
Fishing N Boots Posted April 6, 2013 Author Posted April 6, 2013 Thanks for the information, will see if it can help me out tomorrow. I'm so excited, just hope that I catch one. Quote
stew6371 Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 You're welcome. You should catch some. We had 13 of 17 teams weigh in a 5 fish limit. 1st place had a little over 19 lbs & I know 4th & I think 5th was over 15. Quote
Fishing N Boots Posted April 8, 2013 Author Posted April 8, 2013 Hit the water about 7:15am which was just a little bit later then I wanted to be. My goal was to be on the water when the sun came up, yet it was about 20 minutes after, no big deal. This was the first time that I was taking my boat out on the water other then the testdrive whenever I bought it so I was a little nervous. Luckily, she fired right up. First stop was the cove that Stew6371 told me about, atleast I think it was the same one. So question for you Stew, was is the very small cove that you can actually see in the picture that you posted on here, or was it the next cove past? We skipped that first little tiny small cove and went to the bigger one just south of it, Through out the trolling motor and went to work, 2 minutes in, trolling motor stops working. Both batteries were fully charged (I brought a jump box that could tell me the voltage), all wires were connected, so I am still not sure what was up with it. So I started off fishing a texas rigged worm, black in color with a yellow tail. I was fishing it sort of fast, and decided to slow it down a little. I waited about 6 to 7 seconds after the cast to let it fall all the way to the bottom, and sit for a second or two, then I slowly lifted my reel from my chest area to above my head real slow, and then lowered the tip letting it fall back to the bottom and sitting for a couple of seconds. I was not sure if a slow retrieve was the best option since the water temp. was in the 60's, yet it paid off. Around my 4th cast, I caught a good 2lber. So for the 1st 30 minutes I ended up pulling in 2 2lbers and my brother had nothing. We decided to move over and check out another cove, and for the next hour or so, we had nothing. So we left that cove and started hitting the points which resulted in nothing, but good news, somehow the trolling motor started working again. So since it was working, we went into another cove and started trolling up the shore, I tried spinner baits, jigs, the kreature, texas rig, crankbait, rattletrap, all doing absolutely nothing. I was like the fish just turned it off. So we kept at it, knowing they were in there and then my brother finally hit one on a texas rigged worm, real long purple worm, that we found in the boat from the previous owner. He pulls in a nice 2lber. So we continue to fish that cove and we catch a couple more 2lbers. We decided to try deeper water, and also try the north side outlet of the powerplant and didn't catch a thing, yet there were proabably 7-8 boats fishing there, I didnt like fishing that location so we decided to go back and throw some more in the cove that we originally went to. We get back to that cove and the dang trolling motor stops working again, I check the batteries and they are fine, so I'm not sure. At this point it's probably around noon and we both were texas rigging worms and senkos. I tried wacky rigging a sinko but had no hope. Finally I get one to bite and I pull in the big catch of the day which was 4lbs 2oz. We continued to fish that cove and caught some more. So it's now about 230 and we decide to call it a day. It was getting pretty annoying letting the wind push us into the shore, have to drive back to the other side, and repeat over and over. We were heading to leave and noticed the dock was pretty full so we decided to fish that little tiny cove that you can see pictured above. I throw out a little bomber shallow diver crank and hook something big and strong. The sucker was fighting me hard and all I can see is this white belly, and I tell my brother to get the net, because I dont want to lose it as this could be my biggest. Pull that sucker in and it's a 4lb catfish, that decided he wanted to poop, everywhere and on everything haha. All in all it was a very good day. This was my first time at Konawa, I really enjoyed the lake, other then having to hear a whole bunch of dirt bikes. I hope to be going back next sunday, yet I am not going unless I can figure out what is going on with the trolling motor. My biggest LMB I have ever caught was 3.5lbs, my goal that I posted in a 2013 Goal thread was to beat that, I did just that. So even though I am happy that I beat my goal, it was not what I wanted, I want to beat it, so my new goal is 7lb+ LMB. I'm not the best writer, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask away. If there is any advice on trolling motor issues, please throw some advice my way. TLTR (too long to read) Texas rigged worms was the winner for the day. Ended up catching 11 total. 10 LMB, 1 catfish on Crankbait. Largest fish was 4lbs 2oz 1 Quote
Fishing N Boots Posted April 8, 2013 Author Posted April 8, 2013 Here are some pictures of the trip. As you can see in the pictures, I represent not only Tackle Warehouse but I also proved my name...Fishing N Boots Quote
stew6371 Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 I'm glad you had fun & caught some fish. That was my mistake. I forgot the small first cove. The one I was talking about is a pretty good size cove. The bass should've been up in those cat tails lining the bank. As far as the trolling motor goes, start tracing the wiring. Sounds like a short or a loose connection. Quote
Fishing N Boots Posted April 8, 2013 Author Posted April 8, 2013 Awesome, I will trace those wires. The cove we caught the majority of the fish and spent most of the day was the same as you then. Definitely a good cove, the entire cove is about 6-10ft deep and has alot of underwater trees/brush that come up to about 3 feet or so. We couldn't get anything to hit us on the actual cat tails themself, Me and a bunch of other boats were jigging the heck out of them, just couldn't get them to munch. They were hitting about 10 ft away from the shoreline. Quote
