Limit Gitter Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Are the Berkly Gulp Alive worth the money? Does the number of fish caught increase? Average size of Largemouth caught. THANKS FOR THE INFO!! Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted April 24, 2010 Super User Posted April 24, 2010 They work but I don't think they work better than plastics. The gulp alive tubs are really leaky as well. Quote
Chaz Hickcox Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 I have been experimenting with their minnows. I initially bought them for dropshotting, but that is useless in my dirty waters. Then I tried putting them on the trailer hook of a white or ghost colored spinnerbait or buzzbait. Seemed to work ok, but honestly any regular attractant seems to work around here with spinners or buzzbaits. As far as their larger baits, I don't see why not, it's pretty cool that you can put the old ones into the can and 'recharge' them. I just don't fish soft plastics much. Quote
leslie_goes_mental Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 I wouldn't even bother with them because cheaper plastics catch just as much fish and are easier to deal with. Now, for saltwater fishing, the saltwater version works wonders for spec trout, red drum and even blues, if it's a slow day on the water. Quote
Gamec0cks5 Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Their SW stuff I love !!!! But I have yet to catch a single fish on the GULP! for FW I've fished several of there stuff and haven't caught anything so I just give them away Quote

I found that out the hard way when one of them rolled over on its side in the back seat of my truck driving home. Truck smelled like that juice for 2 weeks. Quote

Dave D Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 I fish the Gulp leeches a lot and do awesome with them on Walleyes, catfish and yes bass. The key to keeping gulp buckets from leaking are as follows. Take off the lid, cut a small "X" in the middle of the paper, then access the baits through this hole. This works great! If you remove the paper cover you are asking for a mess. Dave Quote

Super User iceintheveins Posted April 26, 2010 Super User Posted April 26, 2010 So far I've noticed that gulp doesn't seem to work better than a traditional plastic, but about the same. So with the mess and the fact that they dry out, it may not be worth it. Quote

So with the mess and the fact that they dry out, it may not be worth it. I agree with ya on that. The biggest positive for me is when I fish live bait vs. Gulp Alive. I would go through dozens of leeches at times in just one outing. Now I can literally make a dozen Gulp ALive baits last me an entire trip, they just can take a beating and stay on the hook better. Plus you can re-charge them. Now with that said...give me powerbait any day! ;D Quote
Nicky Greece Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 Ive used the minnows for crappie and they work farely well... On the other hand... that juice is funky. REALLY funky. Bring some hand wipes if you use 'em. Quote
timothy_spain Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 too expensive and leaky bucket. still haven't caught anything on gulp products. Quote
catchnm Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 I also use the minnows for crappie. Beats buying minnows and running out or if the fish aren't biting, pouring them into the lake when I leave. I can catch 3-5 fish on the Gulp Alive minnows before they are torn up, sometimes more. Quote
Mike Z Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 I bought some fake minnows because the loacal park system doesn't allow live minnows for bait. So its either worms or nothing for live stuff. Haven't opened the package yet though. I tried the catfish bait they sell and have been skunked so far. On Sunday I took the kids to the pond where I live and I know there are tons of catfish. One used the gulp and the other used hot dogs that I cut up. The little one using hot dogs caught three fish in 10 minutes. I gave up and let the older one use hot dogs as well because he wasn't even getting a bite on the gulp stuff. Quote
scrutch Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 That GULP! stuff works pretty well for relieving constipation. :-X :-X Quote

LilJakeC1 Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 I have only had luck with the gulp Minnows. The best way to fish them is to use a jig head and fish it on a beetle spin. it works great in clear water or ponds. Quote
evrgladesbasser Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Fished the Gulp! worms vs the Senko on a recent trip... only noticable difference to me was the fish held on just a little longer with Gulp!. As for size of fish or number of hits.... no difference Quote
