Missouribassman95 Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 I've heard good reviews, for both but I wanted to hear your opinions. Which is better? :-? Quote
aarogb Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 What are you talking about for each company? Swimbaits, jigs, etc. or are you talking about the company as a whole? Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 After my dealings with True Tungsten I will never purchase any more of their junk. IMO, Spro products are superior in every way. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted May 4, 2010 Super User Posted May 4, 2010 I think he means the frogs. The spro frog draws lots of strikes for sure but it takes on water pretty bad. If you caulk the hole where the hooks are and then cut a small slit on top near the eye so the frog will still collapse when a bass takes the bait, it works better. I haven't thrown the Tru Tungsten yet, but I bought one a while back and plan to use it when frog season rolls around in June. The drain on the back end of the frog is supposed to deal with the water problem, and the body seems softer and more pliable than the spros, and that exposes the hooks more when you press down. Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted May 5, 2010 Super User Posted May 5, 2010 The new Snag Proof Phat frog, you can't sink it! It will not take on any water. For me I like the Snag proof frogs better than any other and the new Phat frog is a winner. Just my two cents worth! Quote
BassThumb Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 I've fished mainly Spro BronzeEye frogs with good results, but I picked up a few Snag Proof Bleeding Frogs recently that I'm excited to try out. They might not be as pretty as a Spro to the human eye, but after I put one in my hand and squeezed it, I think it will have a better hook-up ratio than a Spro. I was instantly upset at how much I've spent on Spros. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted May 5, 2010 Super User Posted May 5, 2010 I plan on buying a couple phat frogs. Quote
fatmanslim247 Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 I have both, the spro takes on water... people say to do this or that to them and they work better.... My thing is why spend that kind of money on a frog and have that kind of problems. I like the mad maxx frog but my favorite so far is the river2sea frog with the small colorado blade on the back..... by far my most productive frog yet Quote
goober0311 Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 river2sea frog are what i use now, they have a little black rubber piece on the hook right at the body that doesn't allow water to get in. I have used both the spro and the tru-tungsten. i find that the tru-tungstens are hard and need to be left out on the dash board of my truck for a couple days to get them to be softer. The small spro frogs did ok for me but when i tied on the bigger ones, thats when i started to get the problem with water. So IMO the river2sea frogs are the way to go. Quote
Skeet22 Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 The Spros are definitly softer and the hooks are super sharp. I threw a SPRO for two straight days on Toledo Bend this past weekend and squeezing them every few cast was no big deal. I have a Mad Maxx but its just too hard for my liking. Hook ups are few and far between as it is and I would imagine with the mad maxx hook ups would most likley decrease. Quote

Snag Proof is the best, no comparison. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted May 5, 2010 Super User Posted May 5, 2010 The Madd Maxx frog is now much softer than it was before and it seems to collapse easier than the spro. Quote

So your talking about the croaker frog from R2S? Never have had them sink or take on much water? Quote
Texas10Man Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 I havent used the Spro frog or the Tru-Tungsten but I dont see how they could possibly be better than the Snag Proof Phat Frog. I had only used the H2O Express frog before this one and they took on water like crazy and I didnt like that at all. Like someone said earlier, if a frog is too hard put it pack in the package and leave it on the dashboard for a few days. Get one white and one black Phat Frog and your good to go! Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 R2S is the best hands down............................. Quote
Missouribassman95 Posted May 7, 2010 Author Posted May 7, 2010 What about the swimbaits...I've heard Tru-Tugsten is better. Quote
