Can some one who has both the Trokar, and VMC hook in the 5/0 size post a picture of them side by side for comparison purposes? Or at the very least, if you have used the VMC post your thoughts on it?  I am interested in the new VMC hook and have not seen one in person yet. I have been impressed with VMC's offerings lately and was considering going with these hooks this time over the Trokars. I like the fact the eye is sealed shut on the VMC, and that is a needle type point, and not a "cutting point" like the Trokars have. I tried the Gamakatsu flipping hooks last year, good hook...............bad keeper. I like the Trokars keeper, but I don't like that the eye is not seald shut, and the points durability leaves a little to be desired.

I'm going to try them out this year especially the 3/o for smaller plastics.  I think it'll be a nice hook unless it's weak. When I get a chance to use them i'll report back, probably a while yet.

My favorite flipping hook I've triad so far is the denny brauer girp pin hook from mustad. The bait keeper tears the bait less then all the others I've tried and the keepers dont move.  I havn't tried the VMC's yet but have tried the gamblers, cobras from halo, strike king hack attacks, gamakatsus and the trokars.

I'm alright with the VMC hook. It has a bit larger keeper on it than some others but in the long run that isn't too major. The Trokar has accounted for several lost fish for me because of how large a hole it punches. I've had several fish that just backed the hook out somehow, even with constant pressure from the rod. I've not lost a fish in a similar situation with any other hook.

The singular drawback to the VMC is the gap of the hook doesn't always match well with plastics which necessitates three sizes of flipping hook where I can use one in the Mustad. Also, the resin coated eye is super excellent. No more braid breaks at the joint, and it snells extremely well.

What size VMC are you using for Havoc Pit bosses and Havoc Slop craws. I was thinking 5/0. This will be the first year I will use those baits. I used a 5/0 Trokar , and a 4/0 Gamkatsu on RI Sweet beavers in the past. The Pit Boss worries me, as it's a little "beefier" in the body than a RI Beaver, and I want to have enough bite with the hook.

I don't fish the slop craw much. When I do, I have been using a 4/0 snelled, the pit boss is ok with a 4/0, as well, because of the ribs on the top and bottom of the bait. I prefer a 5/0 with, however. When I am fishing deep deep junk, I tend to lean more towards a 4/0 to eliminate some of the chance of hanging up. The nice thing about that hook in Havoc is that the baits are soft enough that clearance doesn't really get to be a huge issue; the bait compresses pretty readily and moves well on the hook shank, allowing for better hook sets. Advantage VMC, too, is the hook pints will not roll. I've fished zebra mussel lakes with the hooks, and unlike the trokar or gamakatsu heavy cover, the point is hard enough that it won't roll.

Give the gamakatsu's another try. I have 3 packs and the only issue with the keeper coming loose was when I wrenched a snell knot off with pliers. I'm pretty sure they fixed it.

Gamis keepers are not fixed. They still come loose. You can glue them back in place and they keep working.

Trokars ARE welded shut. They are not an open eye.

I am going to try the VMCs but have not had a chance to buy any yet. The only thing im worried about is the epoxy closed eye instead of welded.

Sorry, but they are most certainly NOT.  I have some from two different packs in my possession and neither of them are welded shut. One bought from TW, and one from Dicks. Both in the 5/0 size.

I have a pack of 5/0 Trokar flipping hooks that I haven't put through through the paces yet to give a good solid opinion on. In my experience the hooks do leave BIG holes; I've had the hooks (on a moderate hookset) go into into the cheek, make another exit hole and nearly rip the entire cheek out. I got the pack on sale for a great deal but now I think my next flipping hooks 4/0 and 3/0 will be VMC. In my experience and as has been said I  have found that Trokar hook point tent to roll, or fold when they come into contact with cover, forbid that you set the hook in anything other that a fish.

I'm pretty happy with VMC hooks in general...especially for their price.

I've used their trebles, worm hooks, and EWG consistently and love them

I will definitely try their flipping hooks

Well I'll be...............That's also the new packaging they come in. I wonder when they started sealing  them shut?  Mine are from the older "clam" type packs, that have the paper folder with the hooks in the folder. If I had known they started sealing the eye up, I would have bought some more, I like the hooks just fine, except the non-welded eye, but it looks like they addressed that. Oh well, I got VMC's coming, so we'll see how I like those.

They stared welding the eye just this year, I believe.
