GaterB Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 I recently found a new pond to fish. Decent sized, but it doesn't have much visible cover or structure. There are some pockets of grass near the shoreline, and a few points and flats. I have been fishing there twice with no luck. I know there are bass there (some of decent size), but I can't get them to bite. The weather is just starting to warm here, and I've thrown everything from jerkbaits to weightless worms at them. Any advice? Quote
PondBoss Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 I never would have given this advice had it not been for last weekend. Wacky rig a senko and fish it weightless. Use a wacky hook with the weed guard so you get less weeds and hang ups. Cast out let it sink, once on the bottom jig it a few times maybe covering a foot or so, let it sink and repeat. Once you feel tension just lean into them and hopefully that will work for you like it did for me. Quote
JellyMan Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Spots like this, all I gotta say is deeper water, early morning, and trick worms. That is if you know for sure there are BIG bass there. I have experienced this first hand. This was a large pond. No bites from shore. Ever. Then I got out on a small boat early in the morning and found a sand bar with no vegetation with some trick worms and I was doing 4# plus fish like crazy. it was heaven. Then as quickly as it appeared, the bite was gone at 10:30am. My experience. Quote
PondHunter Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 My goto bait on Ponds is the jigWorm. Usually 1/8th oz Roundhead, Black w/Yellow eye, and a 4" curly tail worm like the 4" Powerbait worm in Natural or Black. Use either a swimming retrieve parallel to the shoreline and weed edges, or a lift and drop around any structure or across the bottom. Quote
