BigMoneyGrip Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 I saw a thread here awhile back and can't find it for nothin'. Someone was using small "rubber bands" they found in the beauty section at WalMart. Am I dreaming this or what? Another question, what is a good hook for wacky rigs? Thanks for your help, Scott. I use small black or clear rubber bands that I took from my girls hair supplies. They work pretty good. But, if you don't at least double wrap them, you will lose your worm. Make sure the bands are tight. Small o-rings work good. Use an old pen to help get them on the worm. Quote
BigMoneyGrip Posted April 30, 2010 Author Posted April 30, 2010 Thanks, Josh. How'd you manage to hook that big one in your pic? Quote
ib_of_the_damned Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 I think that toad in the pic was from a wacky rigged senko... ;D Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted April 30, 2010 Super User Posted April 30, 2010 There are lots of different sizes of small 0 rings. 3/8 od (outside diameter x 1/4 id ( inside diameter) work best for senkos. I like the Falcon K wacky hooks. They come weighted and unweighted and in different sizes. Most of the time I use a 3/0 1/16 weighted one. Quote
Josh Bassman Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Thanks, Josh. How'd you manage to hook that big one in your pic? Kastmaster jigging it off the bottom. It is the smallest fish I have ever caught. It's poor little mouth was wedged open as wide as possible with treble hooks. Wacky rig: Try adding a nail weight in the head of the worm. Quote
wvbucketmouth Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 You can get 100 of them shipped for 4 bucks on ebay. One guy sells the tool and 200 rings for 13.95 shipped. You can find them by doing a search for wacky rig. There may be cheaper ones out there, those were just the first ones I found. Quote
DWG1984 Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 I like using heat shrink tubing, I cut a 1/8 inch section and hook right through it. It saves a ton of worms. Quote
madbass Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 I don't know if he still sells them, but I bought like 200 O-rings from this guy for $5 or $6. I have had good luck with his rubber O-rings. If your interested I can PM his email addy to you. Quote
IDbasser Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 On the senkos I use an O-ring with a circle hook. works well for the smallies, check out my avatar, that is what I got her with. Quote
Tpayneful Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I use 3/8" Heat Shrink. Slide it on and shrink it with a lighter. You can get it at Lowes, Home Depot and Radio Shack. Online you can get it at digikey.com, mcmaster.com or newark.com. I found that I had to pierce the heat shrink for the best longevity. I can fish this one wacky worm all day. It beats the rubber band by a mile. I get so many fish out of them that I don't mind buying Yamamoto Senkos! Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted May 1, 2010 Super User Posted May 1, 2010 i use heat shrink tubing also, but, instead of hooking under it like in the photograph above, i hook straight through it, like you would normally hook straight through when wacky rigging. IMO this keeps the worm in place better than sliding the hook between the tubing and the worm, and it really makes the worm last since the worm can't really slide anywhere. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted May 1, 2010 Super User Posted May 1, 2010 .dsaavedra, that is the best rigging for Senkos. A perpendicular hook does a better job of hooking the fish than the parallel hook. Quote
aarogb Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I wear braces and I use the rubber bands that my orthodontist gives me for my braces. They are just the right size. Quote
jdw174 Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I've been using the Owner Wacky Hooks with the weedguard and I've not yet lost a fish. The little buggers are sharp as all get out and the fish seem to hook themselves. The hooks run about a buck each, but worth it IMO. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted May 2, 2010 Super User Posted May 2, 2010 Check this thread out: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1236855515 Quote

I use the Owner Wacky hooks and the Gamma ones as well... both work great... I have posted before that I do use hair bands from Walmart... the little black ones that come like 500 in a pack for a couple bucks.... I double it over and it works well for me... I know Wayne is the master at it though and his set up has got me thinking about changing mine this year??? Quote
BigMoneyGrip Posted May 5, 2010 Author Posted May 5, 2010 Thanks for all the tips. I ended up making the tool from aluminum and will try the o-rings. I wasn't sure how to make it so, I just guessed and it turned out perfect. Plus, it looks cool. Thanks, Scott. Quote
