I use the Owner Mosquito 2/0 hook or the owner finesse/whacky hook

Same here. Size 2/0 or 1/0 depending on the size of the bait being thrown.

For Trick worms, I use a Gamakatsu Octopus hook in 3/0. For finesse worms, I use a Gamakatsu Octopus hook in 2/0 or an Owner Mosquito hook in 2/0.

For Senkos, I use a 4/0 Gamakatsu Octopus hook with an added weedguard of 7-strand stainless steel leader material in 60#

I've really gotta get my hands on some of that small diameter heat shrink to add my own weedguards like that. The difference in price between the Gammy's with and without is kind of surprising for just a small piece of material added onto them.  I need to get some anyway to add some barbs to my straight shanks.

I personally use the Owner wacky hooks and the Gammy widegap finesse hooks.

I use the same hook in a 2/0. It is surprising how few hooks I loose. A round split shot crimped in the inside bend of the off-set is a great way to add weight to change the fall rate. Works well for me.

fishEguy, not on most of them. Sometimes the tubing doesn't grip the hook shank tight enough to keep it from slipping so I put a drop of super glue at the hook bend end. The shrink tubing is the 1/8" size.

The brand of wire I use is Malin and I got it at BPS in the salt water section. It is the smallest size they carry.

I first tried some saltwater mono leader material but it was not stiff enough for timber but was as stiff or stiffer as the weedguard on the Gamakatsu Weedless Finesse Wide Gap hook.

Another one for the Mosquito hook. It's a great hook for both wacky rigging and dropshotting.

Wayne P. I think your solution to wacky rigging heavy timber is a great idea. I don't fish that kind of cover too often, but I may take a shot at making a few of your weedguard added hooks. Thanks.

Hmmm and here the whole time I have been tying 7 strand to the hook, your idea looks a whole lat easier!!

River Rat, it takes less than 15 seconds to assemble the weedguard hook.

When heat is applied to the shrink tubing, do it slowly so the tension of the wire doesn't stretch it. I use a long tube lighter like for starting grills and only hold the flame close and not in the flame. Don't hook the loop over the point when heating. I hold the hook in my fingers during the process. If you get it too hot to hold, you have over cooked it and might as well start over.

I do well with drop shot hooks. 2/0 usually but it depends on the size of the lure. Never have any hook up problems.

Mustad weedless wacky hook.  1/0 and 3/0.

less than $3 for 5 from Cabelas.

i've had these stay sharp and the weed guard stay  functional for over 15 fish.
