BronzeChaser Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Ever since the g series came out I haven't really considered them, but lately from most of what I've been hearing from people who actually fish them, they seem like a typical quality reel from shimano. I'm not here to start any arguments or comparisons about the e vs g series. I'm just interested in what people thing of the g for a cranking reel. You can get them on ebay for $130 all day long. I haven't fished these reels, but I've yet to fish a shimano I didn't like, I'm not a fanboy, I just appreciate a quality reel. If these are anything like what I've come to expect from shimano I'm sure they're a good reel. Again it will be used for cranking, so the graphite sideplates and rigidity of the reel under heavy loads isn't really a concern. I'm more interested in smoothness and castability, although I'll probably put bocas in it anyway. Quote
Diggy Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I thought the reel was smooth and casted awesomely. I don't own one but Id have no problem buying one at a discount.I don't see why not if you want one, but I'm sure someone will try to sway you elsewhere though. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted April 2, 2013 Super User Posted April 2, 2013 I have 2 and while they are 7's I have used one for small SB's and like it. I am looking for another to make a cranking set up. Quote
Loop_Dad Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I have two (7's). Nice and smooth. No complaints. Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted April 2, 2013 Super User Posted April 2, 2013 I have 2, and absolutely no complaints. Hootie Quote
A-Rob Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I have all shimanos and 1 abu garcia winch. The curado I find casts a bit better but the winch is otherwise real smooth and powerful. Bottom line, I like and use both. Quote
fishingman88 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 The Curado G is still a great reel. Don't let the E purists scare you away Quote
BronzeChaser Posted April 2, 2013 Author Posted April 2, 2013 I had a feeling they couldn't be as bad as some have been making them out to be. Shimano's been a trusted and quality reel builder for long time, and for $130 they're as much as an e series citica was, and I'm confident they are as good or a little better in performance. I have a couple curado e's and citica e's and enjoy them, I've just been a little hesitant about the g's. But from you guys say they're typical shimano quality. I've also got a couple revos, they're nice but the gear box on the new ones interfere with how I hold my reels, so It's between shimano and lews and I've always like shimano more anyways Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted April 2, 2013 Super User Posted April 2, 2013 I own two Gs, nothing wrong with them and they were my work horses for 2012. I never had a problem with either of them or the Citica Gs (3). Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted April 2, 2013 Super User Posted April 2, 2013 The Shimano G series are good reels. I don't think that they are as good as the E's, but that is probably just me. If you can spare the extra money, the Curado 300 E is a GREAT crankbait reel. Larger capacity, deeper spool. Fill it with 10 lb test and you will get more distance than you will with a 200. Any you'll be able to break off several times before you need to respool. Fill it with 20 lb line or heavier braid and you've got a reel that will handler heavier swim baits if that is what you want. Super User senile1 Posted April 2, 2013 Super User Posted April 2, 2013 I'm still waiting for the F series. Actually I think they have an F series for saltwater. Isn't that what the Saragosa spinning reels are for? Sorry, back on topic. Quote
