PondBoss Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I just got an airbrush, but have yet to get a compressor. I've had a few blanks laying around since Christmas. I was tired of looking at them with no paint, so I rounded up a couple cans of spray paint. First time I've ever tried to paint a bait so be nice. lol Ready for the water https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=582731561738485&set=a.298692906809020.80657.100000049395874&type=1&theater¬if_t=photo_comment 1 Quote

jhoffman Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Throw a stripe of chartruese down the top when you get the airbrush kickn. Quote
sunkist Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Wow if you did that with rattle cans you will be shocked at what you are capable of with an airbrush. Quote
The Rooster Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 That looks great. What do you put on it to keep it from peeling off, or will it? Quote
PondBoss Posted April 2, 2013 Author Posted April 2, 2013 I used 5 minute clear drying 2-part epoxy. I use the same stuff on golf clubs when putting different heads on shafts. That paint isn't going anywhere. Quote
BobP Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Epoxy can be a great topcoat, but only the slow cure 30 minute type, such as Devcon Two Ton. 5 minute epoxies don't level out well and will turn an ugly brown pretty quickly. You don't see than in a golf club head but painted on a crankbait, yes. Nice looking bait! Quote
PondBoss Posted April 3, 2013 Author Posted April 3, 2013 This particular 5-minute epoxy doesn't yellow. They do make one that cures light yellow, but this is clear. I have used it on gold clubs and when you take them apart you can see that the epoxy has dried and set clear. It seemed to level pretty well, but I will definitely try a longer setting time for my next try. With 5 minute I really had to rush, and could not get more than one bait at a time per batch. Over all I think it was a success for the initial try, and learned a lot to help get better in the future. Quote
PondBoss Posted April 3, 2013 Author Posted April 3, 2013 Was that stuff sprayed on as well? It was brushed on. Epoxies come in different curing colors, this particular one cures clear, although I'm curious now to see a bit of yellow tint on a bait. lol Quote
