AGOSS Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 If you know what the forage is on the body of water then that is the bait i would use. so if there are are mostly bluegill then get a bluegill pattern and if there are a lot of shad get sexy shad color of some sort. If the water is stained or muddy i would go with bright colors like a chartreuse black back. If there is clear water i would use a more translucent bait or more natural looking. Quote

Lipless crank medium sized square bill crank Small mid range diving crank medium sized deep diving crank 5" Suspending jerkbait Walk the dog top water bait Popper top water bait 1/2 ounce flipping jig with a chunk style craw trailer 3/8 ounce finesse jig with a smaller size chunk style craw trailer 3/8 ounce Colorado/willow tandem spinnerbait 3/8 ounce buzzbait. That stuff to me is Bass fishing 101, and you can do very well sticking to the basics. Every one has there favorite brands/colors. They all work. 5 Quote
Brian6428 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I second squarebill crankbaits. Get one that runs 2-4 feet in a sexy shad pattern with a little sparkle so it will work in most waters. Other than that I have heard jigs and worms are very versatile but I am yet to catch anything on them. Quote

I also like trick worms, finesse worms, or cintepeedes on Spot Removers for shakey heading. Those cheap Hart jigs are pretty rad too. I really like the way they fish. Gotta have a Spro Bronze Eye frog as well. Rage Craws, Rage Smokin Rooster, and Rage Space Monkeys are all really Rad too. Quote

Senko like yum 6 inch dingers Jigs green pumpkin/ black and blue Crawdads for trailers.on jigs Z-man chatter bait Strike king buzz is a decent buzzer black and blue is my fav Lipless crank Spinner 1/2 oz in all blades. If you want to narrow the list a little I would says a stick worm style bait is the most versatile. Depending on your style crankbaits in the 1.5-2.5 range can really pay off but I put most of my work in on the soft plastic side of things. Worms of varying sizes and colors work pretty much year round and my personal favorite is a texas rigged craw or creature type bait. Catch fish all day with them. Quote

I tell ya man, on a windy day throw a 1/4 oz booyah, terminator, war eagle, (brand doesnt really matter) tandem spinnerbait. If you fish really clear water I would probably go with a blue glimmer or white bait. In murky stained water I would go chartreuse white. Put some megastrike on the skirt and you will be good to go. Just keep a stready retreive and you should catch you some fish. Quote

Pretty much a great starting point. Without fishing your waters it would be difficult to give you the exact color, size, weight etc to use. Quote

That is my tacklebox in a nutshell. To make it even easier- get some 7" ribbon tail worms, 1/4-3/8oz white/chart spinnerbaits, soft jerkbaits like flukes and some squarebill cranks like KVD 1.5. If color selection is an issue, heres my suggestion. Get a couple in a natural color like bluegill or sunfish and get some in brighter colors like chartruese black back and chrome sexy shad. Get what catches your eye, thats part of the fun. Good luck. Quote
