Hornytoad 10 Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 I've heard a lot about them but never used them, anyone else fish with them? Quote

Micropterus salmoides Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 fourbizz, What kind of setups - rod, reel, line - do you use for different situations? Are you swimming them or fishing them more like a jig? Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted May 4, 2010 Super User Posted May 4, 2010 I fish the 7" mostly. These days I am using the Gloomis SWBR 955C or the 956C. I use either a Cardiff 300 (955) or the Calcutta 400 (956). 20lb CXX on the 300, 25 on the 400. Usually I fish them midcolumn on a straight retrieve. Think spinnerbait. The rest of the time, I pitch them. Quote
247bassin Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Ok...for me, could you please tell me what type of action those rods have. I have no clue what those rods are that you mentioned...sorry for the hassle Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted May 4, 2010 Super User Posted May 4, 2010 They are swimbait specific rods, so the ratings are not comparable to normal bass gear. http://www.***.com/G_Loomis_Swimbait_Rods/descpage-GLSR.html Quote
Thad Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 One of my favorite baits. I've caught fish almost everywhere there has been decent clarity. I usually go with the 5" around here. I had one of my best days ever last year on Guntersville with one. Quote
Super User Raul Posted May 4, 2010 Super User Posted May 4, 2010 ...... and don 't forget about getting a bottle of Mend It, you are going to need it ! Quote
Thad Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 They do tear like other soft plastics but between Mend-It and melting them I got over 30 fish on one bait last year including some mean smallmouth. Quote
