Super User South FLA Posted April 1, 2013 Super User Posted April 1, 2013 I was able to get away to GA this week to do some Spring Turkey hunting and was rewarded with this young gobbler, next to him was a 9" mature gobbler, but I couldn't get the shot I wanted so I settled for this beauty! Does anyone have any turkey breast recipes for me? 1 Quote
jhoffman Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Coat it in italian dressing and let it sit for a day. Then cook it low and slow. If you go too hot to fast it will dry out and be really tough. I usually wrap mine in bacon. Gotta love those zinks huh, I have the looker too. Month to go here before turkeys come in. Quote
jhoffman Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 The other thing you can do is grind it with seasoning, shoot it out of a jerky gun into snack sticks and smoke it. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted April 1, 2013 Author Super User Posted April 1, 2013 Thanks! I am going to try the Italian dressing marinade, yeah I bought the breeder combo Avian X by Zinks, with the both the jake and breeding Hen and the turkeys seemed to like them! Quote
jhoffman Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 I dont have a jake but plan to buy a dsd jake at some point. I have a full strutter that I hand painted and he looks awesome but hes never had a good response from birds here. I dont know if hes too big or what the issue is, they just ignore him. It could be that I hunt public land and theyve seen a few decoys in their days. They come to my decoys they better hope that something is off for me that day. I pattern my gun and know where it hits. Super User clayton86 Posted April 2, 2013 Super User Posted April 2, 2013 My buddy wants me to take one with the gun first but ammo is to expensive and hard to find I'm just gonna center punch one with the bow I think. Quote

Plenty of Ammo for turkey's just about everywhere I looked on way to GA from Florida. You can get some pretty good deals on a box of good namebrand ammo for less than 20 Quote
jhoffman Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 BPS or Cabelas isnt carrying turkey loads? I shoot these in a #6 out of my gun you get 10 not 5 which should last awhile turkey hunting. http://www.basspro.com/Federal-Premium-MagShok-Lead-Turkey-Load-Shotshells-with-FLITECONTROL/product/120829053329603/ Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted April 3, 2013 Super User Posted April 3, 2013 I don't even have turkey gun all I have is my 20ga I could use it but I like the idea of using my bow. Quote
jhoffman Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Getn one with a bow is extremely tough unless you live where turkeys are everywhere and decoys are very effective. You have to get them to twenty and five is better. Ive tried for three years now and cant seal the deal but like I stated above, I hunt some extremely pressured areas. The kill zone with a bow is very small. Remember... Hit em low and watch them go, hit em high and watch them die. Quote
