Super User WRB Posted April 2, 2013 Super User Posted April 2, 2013 Anyone who has fished with FC line will have major knot issues and lose bass directly due to line failures. If this wasn't a problem, then there wouldn't be so many knot suggestions and forum threads dedicated to FC line issues. It's a love hate line; when it's good it's really good and when it's bad it's horrible! Sunline is the premier FC line, however I believe Blackwater is another exceptional FC line. I have been using Solaroam Bass Hi-Class FC, about $13 for 87 yard spools, like Sunline Shooter it's not inexpensive. Tom Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted April 2, 2013 Super User Posted April 2, 2013 I don't think people that use floro are prone to knot problems. I have fished several sunline (sniper and shooter) and seagar (invisix, abrisix, tatsu) products and have yet to have a knot issue. I am also picky about my knots so if it isn't perfect I will re-tie it until I am satisfied with it. Any line can fail at anytime for just about any reason ... braid, mono, and co-poly included. The reason for the number of knots is to allow anglers the ability to perfect a few or one that they really like. Some knots work better for some lines and other knots work with most any lines. Simply find one or two and perfect it. Also sunline isn't the only superior floro line out there. Seagar is just as good. Tatsu would compete with or outperform most any sunline fishing line. The downside of seagar is they have less line choices and colors than sunline. Also tatsu is about as pricey as it gets though comparing price and yards of line shooter is right there. I have straightened gamagatsu 4/0 hooks in wood with 12# invisix. Basicsally the hook gave way before the line or knot did. I have 100% confidence in both seagar and sunline products. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted April 2, 2013 Super User Posted April 2, 2013 I need some input on fluoro line. I have tried a few brands, and have been plagued with poor performance. I will never again buy Vicious (green label) or Vanish or Trilene. I have lost more fish in competition on those lines with various techniques than I care to admit. I am wondering what you all use for fluoro. I do like Seaguar line. The precision wind spool is a wonderful thing. I have heard good things about Gamma, but haven't tried it. What brands do you use/won't use ever again and WHY? Where is your line breaking at? If your curious take a black marker and mark some lines on the line starting at the knot and up about 6-8 inches. If you break off, see if you still have marks on the line. If so, there is a good chance it's at the knot. What knot are you using? Only knot I've had success with is the jimmy Houston/ Shaw Grigsby knot. I've never broken it. Also you gotta check the line 6-7 foot up from the lure frequently for nicks. Fluoro is like a high maintenance women. One of the reason, I use braid for everything and fluoro for one rig only. Treated and checked about every 10-12 casts, it works great for me. I'm no expert, and have only been using it for a short time, but the above has made it work for me Quote
TNBassin' Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I hate fluorocarbon line too, but I've never really tried the expensive stuff. I wanna give the BPS XPS fluoro a shot after I run out of Yo Zuri Hybrid though, as I know RockChalk has said it's pretty decent. I've also heard great things about Seagur Red Label as well, treated with KVD LnL. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted April 2, 2013 Super User Posted April 2, 2013 I have never had a knot issue with any of the FC lines I have tried, no luck at all with BPS or 100% Trilene. Went away from FC for about half a season before trying Invisx on a spinning reel. Loved it and switch all but one (topwater) to FC, switched all but two baitcast reels to Abrasx. Other two are braid. Quote
A-Rob Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 This is not a FC line but... I was tired of break-offs and tired of the $$ spent on FC A lot of guys on here talked about yo-zuri hybrid. I've been using that since with fewer break-offs (none actually). I'm a recreational angler with a few club tourneys now and then so this works fine for me. I use it on my worm rod 12# test. I'm just gonna throw that option in the mix. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted April 2, 2013 Super User Posted April 2, 2013 8lb Invisx on my 2500-sized spinning reels. 12, 15 and 17 lb Trilene 100% Fluoro on multiple baitcasters. Take your time to spool it well, and use L&L conditioner. Would also recommend using cheap mono line as backing so you get 2-3 reel's worth of the fluoro when you spool up. There's certainly some sticker shock with fluoro, even moreso when you're not accustomed to how to manage the line so at least the backing helps reduce some cost. Quote
Brian Needham Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 the BPS XPS is pretty good stuff and economical too. Hell the best fisherman in the world gets paid to tell you its good!! LOL, I have used it and it is pretty good line all jokes aside. that being said, not much if anything beats tatsu. Quote
