Frustrated With Fluorocarbon...

I need some input on fluoro line. I have tried a few brands, and have been plagued with poor performance. I will never again buy Vicious (green label) or Vanish or Trilene. I have lost more fish in competition on those lines with various techniques than I care to admit.

 

I am wondering what you all use for fluoro. I do like Seaguar line. The precision wind spool is a wonderful thing. I have heard good things about Gamma, but haven't tried it.

 

What brands do you use/won't use ever again and WHY?

Go with tatsu or another high quality fluoro, sunline ect. I also used to hate FC until I spooled up with a quality one and used some KVD line conditioner. One spool will last me a full season used with backing, and that's fishing 2-3 times a week.

I've used Vicious with no problems on my end and for the price I'd use it more. I also have used Vanish which I hated because it broke very easily and line management was pretty bad.  Using Seaguar Red Label on one set up right now which has been pretty good so far, no real complaints yet. I am more of a braid guy anyway so the percentages of me throwing fluoro are a lot lower.

Where are you breaking off at?  Knots, mid line?

I was in the same boat until I tried Invisx/Abrasx, treated with KVD L&L I have had zero issues. The biggest advantage I have seen is the slack line bite detection.

I hated fluoro too, until I tried some of the better brands.  Sunline Super Sniper is a great line and so is Tatsu.  Seaguar InvizX is also very manageable, it handles beautifully but has a lot of stretch.  Tatsu is the best of the bunch but is also the most expensive.  Use a backer, KVD L&L and don't get a larger diameter line than you really need.  One of the better lines will be cheaper in the end because you will keep it on longer.

Sunline Sniper in 16lb.  ALWAYS use a ton of spit and the San Diego Jam knot.  I think/find knots with lots of wraps or long pieces being pulled against others generate more heat and weaken the line. 

I'll never use Vanish or Flurocast again.

 

L&L helps too, spray it on as you spool up the reel.

I swear by Seaguar InvizX.  Switching all my baitcasters to that this year with one exception.  My "big stick" will get the Abrazx 20lb test.

I have seaguar invizx on all my rods now with the exception of a topwater rod and a punching rod. I have 6,8,12,15 lb tests all rigged up and honestly, if it wasnt for the box I would think it was mono with how it manages

I tried AbrazX, and InvizX, and didn't feel they were any better than Red Label, at least for my purposes. Before I switched to Red Label, I used Vanish and Trilene 100%. Vanish was OK in the smaller lb tests on spinning rod where you didn't need to put it to them to set the hook, but In any of the higher lb tests it broke on me way too often, and way too easy. Trilene 100% was the line that soured me on ever using fluoro as a mainline every again, it was good strong line, but it , for me, was just plain difficult to work with.

I used it as main line, terrible experience with breakage on the spool, but it works awesome as leader material(red label). I ended up using it as that.

There is no finer line than Tatsu, none...

 

Otherwise, I would recommend InvizX or AbrazX as leaders depending on the application.

First fluoro I bought was Sunline Sniper and I've not seen any reason to try anything else.

Before there was Tatsu, I used mainly Seaguar InvizX and AbrazX.  Once Tatsu came out I tried it and, in my opinion, it lives up to all the accolades given to it.  I still use InvizX and AbrazX the most.  I haven't tried the Seaguar Red Label but I have had nothing but good results from the other three Seaguar fluoros.  So, if you choose to go with Seaguar, you have your choice of price points.

I used Seaguar InvixZ for the first half of 2012.  Initially I like it b/c it was very managable but found it lacked abrasion resistance and had a lot of stretch.  Then I had issues with Seaguar Senshi mono so  I am done with Seaguar for a while. 

 

Right now I have BPS XPS fluoro and have not had a single issue.  It is a lot better then InvizX in nearly every catagory except InvizX is a little more managable but XPS is not bad.  I want to try Sunline Sniper but haven't felt the need to pay the extra cost over XPS since its on sale rather often and its pretty cheap.

Seaguar AbrazX is designed with an emphasis on abrasion resistance.  InvizX is designed for manageability.

Really like tatsu above any other line all things considered. Invisix and abrisix are really good too at half the cost. I am also impressed with the sunline products... sniper and shooter specifically.

I love tatsu on my bottom contact rods. However on my moving bait rods I use seaguar red label and have no issues with it. great knot strength and handles pretty well with some line conditioner. it's not the most abrasion resistant line though but it's not horrible either. I've used it for a few years now with no issues. I hated trilene 100% and vanish is named that for a reason...

I've found that Tatsu is the best of both worlds when it comes to invisx and abrasix. It's soft and supple yet very abrasion resistant. There is no better line on the market.

Cheap and fluorocarbon can´t be in the same sentence. Good quality FC is always "expensive". Seaguar manufactures excelent FC.

i use sunline shooter now. love it. i also use some invisx because its soft and supple. its not quit as abrasion resitant though.

Invisx is a great line for spinning reels in the 6-8 lb test range, but it stretches like a rubber band, especially in the higher tests. I would never again used it for fishing jigs/worms on a baitcasting setup with higher tests, though it make a pretty good crankbaiting line if the cover is not too abrasive. I opt for Trilene 100% in 15-17 lb test on bottom-contact rods. I have had tremendous results from Trilene 100% over the years, despite not being the most manageable line on the market. It has low stretch, great abrasion resistance and sensitivity, and excellent knot strength.

 

I have a spool of 8# Tatsu that I'm excited to try out this season.

I use Seaguar Red Label and have no complaints. I tried Vanish and ended up throwing it away. I am going to get a spool of Tatsu next week, hopefully it will live up to the hype.

I use and like the Cabelas store brand flourocarbon. I can get 600 yards of 10 lb for 27 bucks....6 or 8 lb is 25 bucks for 600 yards. I do believe the cabelas brand is manufactured for them by Seagar. Might be a less expensive alternative for some folks.

 

FYI, 12 lb and heavier has a price jump to 37 bucks for 600 yards.

Could you elaborate more on what consisted of the frustration. Was it line management? Sensitivity? Abrasian resistance? Something else? While floro lines are similar there are certain floro lines that tend to be better at the areas mentioned above.

Also is there a max amount that you would spend or are you open to all floro offerings?
