Sbennett9 Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Anyone with any suggestons for Aquia creek? I will be fishing out of a jon boat on it and plan to go in the next week or two. Quote
DelfiBoyz_One_and_Only Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 If you are launching out of hope springs in your jon boat there are a lot of spots to fish. If you are just trying to catch fish throw a little grub along the banks and boat docks. That little 3in grub also works well in the cove across from boat ramp a little to the left. If you are after big bass get your rattle traps and senkos ready. I would start where everyone else starts when fishing out of hope springs. That would be the train bridge, both sides and make long cast to the bank next to the bridge. If you come out of the marina and go right (towards the river) on your right a little ways past the train bridge there is a bunch of boat docks to fish. Just past the train bridge on the left there is a gravel bank that opens to a big grass flat, awesome spot for the trap to work. If you take your boat and go left out of the marina (that would be going away from the river) you will hit a point where it bottle necks to a creek. The point of that bottle neck is very deep (relative term (14-18 ft) jigs and t-rigs work well there. Hope you can follow all this trying to type fast late for a meeting... Jay- Quote
coldsud Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 @Delfi_Boyz I go down to the Aquia Harbor, where all the residential gated community is every so often. I usually only fish at that one spot near the baseball fields. I don't have a boat. So it's just shore fishing. I always hear people talking about catching snake head around there. As a matter of fact, I saw 2 dead ones in the water where i was fishing at last time. I'm curious if you have caught any of your own out there and what your technique was Lure type etc.. thanks! Super User Sam Posted May 5, 2013 Super User Posted May 5, 2013 S, please check the weather, especilly the wind, as Aquia Creek can turn into a rough area very fast. As Delfi said, hit the banks and all the grass you can find with both a lipless crankbait, a chatterbait and a spinnerbait. A Bandit 100 type bait can also pay dividens. Senkos and drop shots work well, too. The bass will tell you what they want and how presented. As for snakeheads, they are fun to catch. I believe you don't have to kill them any more but double check with the DG&IF just to be sure. Have fun and be safe. Quote

Target shallow cover and vegetation ( by shallow I mean 4inches-15inches) on high tide with a chatterbait. Wear polarized shades because a lot of times you can see them. Beware if they see you they spook. Jay- Quote
coldsud Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 @Delfi_Boyz Thanks man. I'm going to give it a go this week and try to land my first snakehead!!! Quote
DelfiBoyz_One_and_Only Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 This week will be a little tough with these mini cold fronts the Snakeheads are going to be a little deeper than normal. Look for the shallow waters that I described previously and fish it in 2-6ft of water. Jay Quote
bulletfighter Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I fished the creek last night near the road by the softball field. I hooked up with three snakeheads but was unable to land any of them. I was using those Yum Smoothhound top water lures, The Snakeheads love them, but the hook up rate with those is crap. I did land one last year late in the season with one. The Snakes that I hooked up with last night were laying right up against the bank, I had to stand back about 10 feet from the bank and then cast up along the bank to draw them out from cover. If you are up on the bank, you will spook them and they wont come out. I also seen some pretty massive carp as well as a couple good size bass but couldnt coax the bass into biting. If the weather holds out, I am going to head back out this evening and try again. It would be so much easier with a boat if you have one. Quote
bulletfighter Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Sorry about the last post, I meant that I was using the Yum Money Hounds. I have been hit in the head too many times. Quote
BigJim Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I'll second watching the weather. You don't want to be out there in a jon boat when that water gets choppy. Quote
