bassboy107 Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Ok, so I live and fish in New Hampshire and I heard that they were trying to get rid of lead lures. I want to play it safe when I am buying stuff now, so what companies make lead free lures, and does lead free affect the performance? Quote
CABassin Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Lead is just used as a weight. If the lure or hook isn't weighted, then it probably doesn't have lead. Lead also used to be used in paint, but I doubt it's still used. Perhaps one of the lure making guys can chime in on that one. Quote
motodmast Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Only thing you really need to look out for is terminal tackle and jigs. Look for stainless steel or tungstin instaid of lead. Tungstin is quite a bit more expensive thena lead though.. Quote
je1946 Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Hey Largemouth Magic, I'm from Ma. and ran into the same problem as alot of people when having to go to lead free, I couldn't find people to make lead free for a decent price. I can highly recommend Mike Siebert who is a member here, contact Seibert Outdoors, the man does an awesome job, gd quality jigs with gd hooks and skirts, with a quick turnaround time, at a gd price. I think his are Bismouth and Tin, it's alot cheaper than tungstin. Give him a shout, I don't think you'll be disappointed. 1 Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted April 1, 2013 Super User Posted April 1, 2013 Another MA fisherman here as well, being forced to endure the wrath of the tree huggers! In any case, more & more companies are specializing in, or incorporating non-lead jigs, hooks and lures into their product lines. One that I've done a lot of business with is Cadman's Custom Fishing Tackle. You can contact Ted Cadman directly at his email address: chodor@sbcglobal.net. He has an extensive online catalog which he will send to you. Another I've bought jigs from is GreenTackle.com. More & more of them are popping up every day. 1 Quote

Super User Jigfishn10 Posted April 1, 2013 Super User Posted April 1, 2013 I got some lead free jigs from Siebert Outdoors and can not be happier with them. Great service and workmanship. I can not say enough good things about Mike. I actually didn't know cadman was producing lead free jigs, good for him, he's one of the most helpful peeps in the tacklemaking section you'd ever want to meet. Quote
