ghost Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 I'm looking to buying this reel or the Lews BB-1 Speed Spool. Those who own the Tournament Speed Spool, any good? Which of the 2 reels mentioned would be a better choice? I'm looking for an all around reel, so both have a gear ratio of 6.4:1. The Tournament Speed Spool specs: TS1HL Left 6.4:1 7.9 9BB + 1RB 12/120 The BB-1 Speed Spool specs: BB1HZL Left 6.4:1 7.2 9SS + 1RB 12/160 I guess I like the less line capacity of the Tournament Speed Spool and it's not that much heavier than the BB-1. Help me decide...I'd like to buy one before the end of Easter Sunday. Quote

It is personal preference, If you want dual casting control the Tournament, The BB1 as you said has a deeper spool to allow more line, and a power handle and a more aggressive centrifugal brake, with no magnetic cast control, and a spring loaded quick acces pin to remove the side cover for break adjustment. They are all Speed Spools, and all have minor differences, all perform admirably and it just depends on the specifics you want. I also own the Team, Team Gold, and Tournament Pro, the Team and Team Gold are a bit smoother and just feel better to me. The rest perform about equal with the only minor optional differences. You will be happy with either one. Quote
skeletor6 Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 I own the TS1H and I would choose it over the BB version. The spool on it is just way to big for overall usage IMHO. I actually prefer a somewhat smaller spool. The line holding capacity is not the only effect of having a smaller spool, it also is a factor in casting lighter baits. The large spool on the BB version would not help in this area, and it seems that a 12lb/120yard diameter spool is a standard size spool so I would go that route. The multi-system breaking feature is nice and allows for more adjustments too. Personally, the spool size on the BB l is a deal breaker for me unless I would be tossing large crankbaits or swimbaits.. If that is not an issue for you then either is a decent choice. Quote

Capt.Bob Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 you didn't mention price on this thread like you did on your other, but either one of these reels can be had for right at $100.00, and you wont buy any other brand that has proven itself as smooth with as many options and features for twice that, these things are the best buy on the planet right now, at these prices like I said on the other thread, if you aint happy with you can get your money back, I'm betting you will be like all the rest that buy on, "DELIGHTED"! joejoe352 Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 i own botth reels, you cant go wrong with either, if you dont mind not having the magnetic braking on the side plate then get the bb, if you would prefer to have dual breaking then get the tournament its a great reel, if you are switching lures with it frequently i would get the tss just because it easier to set up quickly, but the bb1 is also an awesome reel Quote

That would be any reel they make, they are all SS (Speed Spool)??, what is there normal model?? As far as the TP over a Tournament it has one more bearing and slightly lighter with a carbon handle, Both reels are excellent and I see no difference in performance over either, I like the TP on my LTB68MXF total weight 10.5 oz, so it is a well ballanced very light and sesative rig for deep lightweight jigging. That rod is there top water rod, very versatile. Quote
Brian Needham Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Capt. bob ss = $80 Tourn ss = $110 TP ss =$130 my earlier statement on the comparison of the line was based on bang for the buck, and the TP really cant be beat IMO. but if I didn't have much cash I would stick with the $80 ss , which can be had for around $65 if you look. really you cant go wrong, it is just my preference if you are going to step up, you might as well step all the way to the TP, for not much more $$. different strokes different folks.
